This temple was built in 14 century in memory of Guru Vidyashankara with the help of
Vijayanagar rulers. There are twelve pillars in Vidyashankar temple. These pillars are popularly
known as Rashistambhas or zodiacal pillars. The zodiac signs are arranged in the pillars such a
manner that the rays of the sun fall on each of them in the order of the twelve solar months.
Windows, doors and walls of temples are also arranged such that equinox’s sunrise views reach

The best time to visit Sringeri is between the months of October to March. One of most

starts morning 6am to 2pm and evening 5pm to 9pm. Other temples in the Sringeri includes
