Integration Status -- Infrastructure
The creation of an enterprise LAN is the core infrastructure component of the IT integration. Much of the new LAN is now in place, affording user’s one login (ID and password) with a common mail and calendaring system and shared file and printing resources. An update on the status of each member unit follows.
HealthTeam
It is important to note that the existing HealthTeam network and domain served as the base design for the entire project. The domain was upgraded to Active Directory 2003 and Exchange 2003 was implemented shortly after. This phase was complete Feb. 2004
Nursing
All users and computers were moved into the new HC.MSU.EDU domain All Web sites were moved to one central HC server (Team-Web) All File and Print services were moved to one central server (Team-IIS) All Databases and other miscellaneous applications were moved to central HC servers (Team-SQL2 and Team-User2) All Nursing servers and resources were shut down June 2004
Human Medicine
All users and computers were moved into the new HC.MSU.EDU domain All Web sites were moved to one central HC server (Team-Web) All File and Print services were moved to HC servers (Team-IIS, Team-User2 and Team-User3) All Databases and miscellaneous applications were moved to central HC servers (Team-SQL2, Team-User2) All CHM servers are scheduled to be shut down Sept. 30th 2004
Osteopathic Medicine
All users of the COM domain were converted from the MSU Mail and Meeting Maker calendar systems to the HC mail and calendar system (Exchange 2003) Almost all users and computers have been moved into the new HC.MSU.EDU domain. All File and Print services were moved to HC servers (Team-IIS, Team-User2 and Team-User3) All Databases and miscellaneous applications that resided on Windows servers were migrated to HC servers (Team-user2 and Team-user3) All COM servers (including Meeting Maker) are scheduled to be shut down Sept. 30th 2004

New Systems and Services Implemented
The following is a list of new systems (hardware and software) that have been implemented in the last year.
Infrastructure and Security
We have completed much of the work necessary to create a common, secure infrastructure. To this end, we have significantly reduced the number of redundant systems, standardized desktop PC configurations and streamlined procedures for inventory and user support. Designed and implemented Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain (HC.MSU.EDU) Standardized on a common mail and calendar system (Outlook on Exchange server) and upgraded Exchange Server from 5.5 to 2003 Installed enterprise Spam-filter for email system reducing SPAM and virusinfected messages by more than a million emails. Implemented new accounting system (UMS) Installed Fee Hall data center for file and print service (secured by firewall), allowing faster local access insulated from campus traffic. Doubled user capacity on Citrix (remote access server) by increasing number of servers from 2 to 5 Increased remote accessibility of HIT systems by implementing “Myhealthteam.msu.edu” web portal Reduced redundant servers and systems, including the consolidation of 3 web servers to one and 3 ftp sites to 1 Provided greater control over security of individual computers by implementing an automated Windows patching server Upgraded wireless network to much faster “G” standard (54Mbps) Created firewall-to-firewall VPN (virtual private network) with Ingham Medical Upgraded enterprise print server and network domain controllers to handle the more sophisticated integrated enterprise infrastructure Implemented common Antivirus for all units and upgraded to new version (ETrust 7.0) Implemented standard service request system for all 4 units (SRS) Combined Support and Network groups from all 4 units Standardized desktop configuration (win2000 or XP with office products) Completed an accurate update of college computer hardware inventories Implemented a Network Monitoring System to monitor system up-time and send alerts to staff if a system goes down Completed and in the process of implementing a series of HIPAA security policies

Member Unit and Clinical Systems
The following is a list of member unit requests and/or upgrades to clinical systems. Installed 50 new laptops in the Nursing Tech Classroom and converted the existing 38 laptops for check-out use Converted Beavis server in Pediatrics to Team-User2 file server in Clinical Center Worked with Ingham Medical to connect using their wireless Network for EMR remote access in the hospital Installed over 100 pieces of new or updated equipment (PC’s, printers etc…) Upgraded and installed 180 tablet PCs Upgraded IDXtend client Implemented Medquist interface and system into EMR Installed and implemented the HC Tracker server for physician research Installed and implemented ClaimsManager server for claims error checking
Systems and Services Currently in Development
Storage Area Network (SAN) – This huge enterprise-level storage system will provide the basis for enhanced data back-ups, faster data recovery, and more frequent data “snapshots.” Firewall implementation for Life Science, Clinical Center and Fee Hall – This will provide workstation-level security from Internet hack attacks, and will provide the ability to insulate the different buildings from campus traffic. Moving Logician application to a complete Citrix environment – The Citrix environment allows the EMR applications to be run off a series of “super servers” that allow workstations (PCs, tablets, etc) to process less data and access patient forms and records much faster. Biscom Fax Server for central faxing Upgrade Fee Hall file server (team-user3) to handle new enterprise work load requirements – eventually add the capability to backup other file servers Add new T1 line to the Sparrow Professional Building for enhances data access speed
Miscellaneous Information
Since the beginning of IT integration we have completed over 6500 service calls. Currently we are averaging 650 calls per month.
