Internship Opportunities
Applications are currently being accepted for College Student Summer Interns. Five paid internship positions
are available at DHCD in the following areas: OS/Office of Communications & Marketing, OS/Office of
Community Outreach, Division of Information Technology and the Division of Finance. Please see below for the
position descriptions.
To be eligible for an internship, applicants must be college students, recent college graduates or those pursuing
graduate degrees. College student participants will be from all majors and specialties. Interns will receive an
hourly wage and may earn college credit. The hourly rate paid to each intern will depend on the college year
completed by each student.

Deadline to apply for a College Student Summer Internship is Wednesday, May 16, 2012. The program runs
for 3 months (May 18, 2012 to August 17, 2012).

DHCD College Student Summer Interns
Position Descriptions
OS/Office of Communications & Marketing (1 position available)
Intern will assist and support the communications and marketing team with day-to-day operations, including publication
writing, media monitoring, scheduling, preparation and coordination of events and assisting with print and media
production.
Preferred Majors are: Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism/English
Local travel may occur with a staff person to events.
OS/Office of Community Outreach (1 position available)
The incumbent will assist the OCO Team with the planning and implementation of community outreach events hosted
by the Department of Housing and Community Development, to promote the Department’s mission and portfolio of
programs and services; tracking and coordinating all community outreach events; overseeing the fulfillment of outreach
collateral mailing requests; execute follow-up; maintaining database information for events; assist with special event
preparation; pro-actively gathers information and statistics on each project/event from development to scale, to achieve
quality event productions by keeping detailed records; assisting with communications to external partners, preparing for

speaking engagements, trainings, presentations and exhibitor opportunities, as well as participating in community
outreach events.
Preferred Majors are: Public Administration, Community Outreach, Marketing & Communications
Local travel will be required.
Information Technology (2 positions available)
Intern will work with software developers to assist with software design, programming, test and implementation.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office 2010, SQL, HTML, software documentation and or, Microsoft .Net technologies are of
particular interest. Some duties utilizing network or help desk experience may also be desirable.
Preferred Majors are: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics
Local travel will not be required.
Division of Finance (1 position available)
Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities: research and present findings to support or negate the idea to
self-service portions of the state’s loan portfolio which in total exceeds $600 million; research and present the financial
impact to the State if DHCD were to change loan terms and/or share in a projects annual surplus cash in lieu of required
annual debt payments; assist in the development of a central database by identifying and documenting which module
(underwriting, asset management or loan servicing) should host the raw data; research the health of a multi-family
project, calculate debt service coverage ratios and develop quantitative projections on loss allowance on multi-family
and business portfolios; document financial procedures relating to commitment of grant and loan funds, encumbrances,
construction draws, and financial reconciliations.
Preferred Majors are: Finance, Accounting
Local travel will not be required.
