Title: Data Warehouse Architect Location: Mississauga, Ontario Department: Information Technology Position Summary: The Data Warehouse Architect will be responsible for architecting solutions using Lafarge’s Enterprise Data Warehouse, based on the Lafarge Data Model (LDM). The candidate will be responsible for defining and creating an optimal data architecture that effectively presents an integrated view of the enterprise data for analytical purposes. The Data Warehouse Architect will also be responsible for creating and enforcing the necessary metadata standards and workflow, resolving issues with data quality, defining and developing data management standards and providing input into ETL processes and design reviews. The candidate will also be responsible for second- and third-level support for incidents and the change management process. Some travel (10%) may be required, with more during project phases (75% to 100%). Key Responsibilities: Understands the Lafarge Data Model (LDM) and its strategic implementation in North America. Communicates North America’s unique needs to the Group DWCC and participates in the evolution of the model. Delivers overall technical architecture for LDM implementation and integration with ERP (JDEdwards Enterprise One) and business intelligence system components. Understands design impacts on OLAP and ETL tools. Delivers detailed design of data warehouse, database structures, dimensioning strategy, and integration interfaces (BI presentation as well as data sources). Solutions will address integrated metadata management and reporting requirements. Works with ETL Architect to design and continuously evaluate data collection, data staging, data movement, analytics delivery, data quality and archiving strategies. Develops best practices and policies for all operational functions, including query management, ETL, data collection, data validation, database tuning, access control, backup and recovery. Provides operational support for existing models including impact analysis and coordination of change management of schema, mappings, data transformations and other metadata. Relationship with Other Jobs: Liaises with Application and Infrastructure Architects to coordinate interdependencies, maintain and evolve technical architecture, and resolve issues. Works with DBA’s to communicate needs and manage database performance. Works with ETL Architect to communicate needs and manage ETL performance and reliability. Works with and provides guidance to key project data modeling counterparts to ensure data quality and consistency, and to satisfy reporting needs. Communicates to end-users and analysts the data available in various data marts for self-serve and super-user reporting. Works with BI Architect to explain and document the data warehouse contents, and understand performance requirements and new data to be stored for reporting requirements. Qualifications: Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Experience: Senior level experience with at least 5 years experience in data warehouse architecture design, logical and physical modeling of data warehouse and business intelligence applications. Skills and Knowledge: Real-world experience in supporting multiple users in a data warehouse environment. Solid quantitative, analytical, process development, facilitation and organizational skills. Well-developed leadership qualities. Able to highlight issues/problems and convey complex thoughts, written and oral, in a clear, concise, and timely manner Technology Specific Requirements: In-depth knowledge of star schema/dimensional modeling and data warehousing methodologies. Strong experience in implementation of data warehouse, date marts and operational data stores, with related processes and best practices, e.g., metadata management.
