She only touch’d the hem of His garment

As to His side she stole,

A-mid the crowd that gathered around Him,

And straight-way she was whole!

                   Refrain
Oh, touch the hem of His garment

And thou, too, shall be free;

His saving pow’r this very hour

Shall give new life to thee.

She came in fear and trembling before Him

She knew her Lord had come;

She felt that from Him virtue had healed her,

The mighty deed was done.

He turned with “daughter be of good comfort

Thy faith hath made thee whole.”

And peace that passes all understanding

With gladness filled her soul.

       Israel and the New Covenant

“The land of Israel is the New Covenant and
the physical land of Israel plays a significant
role in the New Testament’s portrayal of
God’s plan for the Jews in particular and for
humanity in general, past, present and
  future.”

The Jewish New Testament (ed. David H.
 Stern)
                    Lillie Rose Ministries 28
                               Covenant…
“A Divinely initiated contract which God
makes with man in which God obligates
himself to the parties names in the contract”

 1. Unconditional…God says, “I will!”

 2. Conditional*…God says, “I will, if you
     will…”

*Conditional carries the burden of obedience;
obedience is better that sacrifice.

                               Abrahamic Covenant

            (Gen. 12:1-3; 13:14-18; 15:121; 17:1-22)
1. Make Abraham a great nation; multiply
his seed; make him father of many nations.
2. Bless Abraham; make him great
3. Make Abraham a blessing to all
4. Bless those who bless him and curse those who curse
     him.
5. Give Abraham *FOREVER the land which he could see
     (very specific boundaries).
6. Give him a sign of the covenant (circumcision).

*This covenant only partially fulfilled and when be fully realized when
Israel enters into the millennial kingdom.

                                 (Ex. 19:4-6)

                of the land.

2. Make Israel a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

Condition: Israel’s obedience to God’s commands
(requirements and law which He then gave them). Israel
failed but Abrahamic is still in effect by nature of the New
               Covenant.

             Reasons to study the tallit:

l. The Bible is Jewish in origin …
(Romans 1:16… Paul not ashamed- power of the Gospel
for salvation is to Jew first; 3:29-30… God is God of
Jew first and also the Greek; 10:12)…no distinction,
      Jew and Greek.

2. New Testament is in fact a Jewish book…

   A. Written by Jews (Luke converted)
   B. Mostly about Jews (90%)
   C. Written especially for Jews, equally to the…
      Gentiles (Romans 1:16)
   D. Jesus (Yeshua) is the central figure.
                        Lillie Rose Ministries 38
                               Yeshua
                                Jesus
l. Was a Jew

2. Born to Jews in Bethlehem

3. Grew up among Jews in Nazareth

4. Ministered to Jews in Galilee

5. Died and rose from the grave in the Jewish…
capitol of Jerusalem in the Jewish country…
Eretz (Israel), which God gave to a Jewish people.

                 Lillie Rose Ministries 39
6. Jesus is alive; therefore, He is STILL a…
   Jew.

7. His closest followers were Jewish. (Luke
   was probably a proselyte)

8. For years, his followers were Jews.
                 Lillie Rose Ministries 40
Jesus practiced His Jewish faith
and he worn a tallit (prayer
shawl). WHY? Was it to fulfill
          prophecy?

            Lillie Rose Ministries 41
E. Jews brought the Gospel to the non-Jews…
     NOT the other way around!

F. The main issue in the early Messianic community (a
follower of the Way) was whether a Gentile could
become a Christian without converting to Judaism; not
whether a Jew could believe in Yeshua. Acts 15:1-
   29;all of Galatians.

G. Paul (the chief emissary to the Gentiles) was a lifelong
observant Jew. Acts16:3…Paul takes Timothy to be
circumcised;17:2…Paul goes to the synagogue as was
    his custom;18:18;21:16;21:23-27;23:7- 25; 28:17...
Paul calls a meeting with Jewish leaders and says that
he has done nothing against our people of customs.

                       Lillie Rose Ministries 42
H. Messiah’s vicarious atonement rooted in Jewish sacrificial
system. Leviticus 17:11…life of the flesh is in the blood for
atonement; Hebrews 9:22…without the shedding of blood
there is no remission of sin.

I. The Lord’s Supper is rooted in the Jewish
     Passover.

J. Immersion (Baptism) is a Jewish practice.
                             Lillie Rose Ministries 43
K. The concept of a Messiah is Jewish.

L. The New Testament completes the
Tanakh (OT) which is the Hebrew
Scriptures which God gave to a Jewish
   people.

                 Lillie Rose Ministries 44
       The Jewish New Testament
            ed. David H. Stern
“The New Testament without the Old
Testament is as impossible as a second-floor
house is without the first and the Old
Testament without the New Testament is as
unfinished as a house without a roof.”

                  Lillie Rose Ministries 45
                THEREFORE

Much of the New Testament is not even
comprehensible apart from its Jewish roots or
context.
                  Lillie Rose Ministries 46
           Most Importantly!
The number of Old Testament
prophecies - all centuries older
than the New Testament events –
are fulfilled in Yeshua of Nazareth,
a Jew in the New Testament!

              Lillie Rose Ministries 47
  Yeshua fulfilled 52 prophecies!
 All prophecies regarding the birth, life and
death of the promised Messiah were fulfilled
  by Yeshua!

 The rest will be fulfilled at His second
  coming!
                     Lillie Rose Ministries 48
Why some people are opposed to the
   Jewishness of the New Testament:

1. Christian anti-Semitism
2. Jews failure to receive the Gospel
3. Separation between the Church and the Jewish
   people…
 Christian persecution of the Jews
 Secular humanism
 Refusal to turn from sin
 Alienation which is perceived by Jews in most
New Testament translations. Jews see the New
Testament as a Gentile book about a Gentile
   god.

                   Lillie Rose Ministries 49
4. The view that Christianity is Christianity…
   Judaism is Judaism.
5. The view by some Christians that they
have replaced Israel, instead of joining
    Israel (Replacement Theology).

Understanding the New Testament from a
  Messianic Jewish prospective…

   Cosmetically:
     Jesus is Yeshua

  Theologically:
Promises have been made in the Torah.
Messiah does not terminate these promises, but
    rather He is the goal at which the Torah aims;
therefore the New Testament is Torah in the
same sense as the Sinaitic (Mosaic) Covenant.

Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic
               Jewish prospective…

The Torah (the law) is not legalistic in the
sense of “bad”; rather legalistic observance
 of the Torah is bad…

Living according to God’s law in faith is good.

    Understanding the New
  Testament from a Messianic
    Jewish prospective….
Syntaxically:
  fulfill is fill

Jesus came to fill the Torah and the ethical
pronouncements of the prophets full with their
complete meaning…so that all can know all that
complete obedience means rather than Jesus
fulfilled all of the prophecies so that none remain
for them now or He kept the Torah perfectly so
that no one need obey it today.

Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic
Jewish prospective…
 Culturally and religiously:

                Why blue?
The answer is, "Because this color
resembles the sea, the sea resembles the
sky, and the sky resembles the ‘Chair of
Glory,’ of which it is said, ‘Under His feet . . .
a sapphire stone’" (Men. 43b)

Blue thus symbolizes the origin (Heaven) of

   Prophecy of the tallit…
It took 12,000 of these sea snail to make 1
thimble full of blue (purplish) dye. It was
extremely expensive! At today’s values, 1
pound of linen dyed in blue was worth
$36,000! Even a single thread of blue was of
such value that it was passed on from one
generation to another.
It was reserved for Royalty and the Priesthood.
A priest’s robe was made entirely of blue
linen and was prophetic in meaning, a shadow
of the High Priest who was to come.

lost formula papers and the Mediterranean Sea
Snail has miraculously reappeared in the Sea.

Mark 5:25-34
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had,
and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse.
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

And straightway the fountain of the blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that
she was healed of that plague.
And Jesus, immediately knowing within himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned
him about in the press and said, Who touched my clothes?
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest
    thou, Who touched me?
And he looked around about to see her that had done this thing,
But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done to her, came and fell
down before him, and told him all the truth.
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be

          39 Windings…why?
Jesus took 39 stripes on His back…a fulfillment of
the prophecy in the windings of the tallit.

He has born my sickness and carried my pain,
and by His stripes, I am healed.
(Isaiah 53:4-5)

…by whose stripes, you are healed.

The woman with the issue of blood …

 knew her scriptures,

 heard about His ministry (Mark 6: 53-56)

 understood the religious significance (authority) of
the tallit, its 4 corners and fringes [tassels, wings]

 believed in the prophecy of a healing (blessing)
  Savior to come.

Malachi 4:2
But unto you that fear my name shall
the Son of righteousness arise
with healing in His wings [kanapf: fringes, tassels, hem,
tzitzits, border, skirt].

She was reaching for her blessing of healing in
the wings (kanapf: tzitzits, fringes, hem, tassels,
border, skirt) of the tallit…her healing!

                   Mark 6: 53-67
When they had crossed over, they came to the land of
  Gennesaret and anchored there.
And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people
  recognized Him,
Ran thought that whole surrounding region, and began to carry
about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard
  He was.
Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or country they laid
the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him that they might
just tough the hem of His garment [ kanapf: tzitzit, fringes,
  tassels, border, skirt, wings]
And as many as touched Him were made well.

       Gemetria of the tallit…

When an observant Jew wrapped himself in his
tallit and saw the tzitzit on his prayer shawl, he
would see the number 26 and he would see the
number 13, which corresponds perfectly with the
greatest commandments he had ever been given.

Jesus said,
If you love Me, obey My Commandments.

Meaning of the tallit continued…
“When holding or viewing or touching the
tzitzits or the fringes, we are literally
embracing, symbolically,

the entire Word of God,
all of the commands of God and
the Name of God.

So we are in essence embracing God Himself,
symbolically, when we grab hold of, by faith,
these fringes…” Lillie Rose Ministries 133
This is how the woman with

healing…by knowing her Scriptures
and by reaching for, in faith, the
wings (tassels, fringes, wings, hem,

(prayer cloth)!

But they that wait [gavah] upon the Lord (are bound

To be successful in your walk, in your Holy
Covenant with the Lord, you have to have spiritual
tzitzits that bind your heart daily to the life and
Word of the Lord.

You exchange your weakness for His strength.
If you do this, you will soar with wings as an
eagle and will be under His authority.

          Jesus’ Rebuke to Pride
The leaders would make their tzitzits longer
and bigger than the common man. Their
pride was reflected in their oversized tzitzits.

They took something good and made it perverted
and bad. They wanted to have MORE AUTHORITY
and so they enlarged the borders [kanaph] of their garments.

The Rabbis were more interested in their “acts” of
prayer being seen by the eyes of men than living a
holy life that was pleasing to God.

David peaked…

  Saul’s Authority Given to David

David, who had been anointed years earlier
by Samuel, had to flee for his life and he
ran from Saul for years.

One day, David was hiding in a cave with his little
band of warriors.

Saul, who had been rejected by God, goes into a
cave to relieve himself. David was in that very cave.
I Sam. 24:3

                      Lillie Rose Ministries 186
             I Samuel 24:3
And, he [Saul] came to the sheepcotes and
by the way, where was a cave; and Saul
went over to cover his feet: and David and
his men remained in the sides of the cave.

                   Lillie Rose Ministries 187
              I Samuel 24:4
And the men of David said unto him, Behold
the day of which the Lord said unto thee,
Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine
hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall
seem good unto thee. Then David arose,
and cut off the skirt [kanapf: fringe] of
 Saul’s robe [tallit] privily.

                    Lillie Rose Ministries 188
             I Samuel 24: 5 & 11

5 And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart
smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt
  [kanaph: tzitzit].
11Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt
[kanaph: tzitzit] of thy robe [tallit] in my hand; for
in that I cut off the skirt [tzitzit] of they robe [ tallit],
and killed thee not, know thou and see that there
is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand and
I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest
  my soul to take it.

                           Lillie Rose Ministries 189
David reached over and cut off the skirt (tzitzit) of
Saul’s robe (King Saul’s garment (tallit).
I Sam. 24:4

He could have killed Saul; instead he cut off
the tzitzit from his tallit.
                        Why?

Symbolically, David removed the power (authority)
from Saul just as Samuel had prophesized!
                         Lillie Rose Ministries 190
              Death

When you cut off a man’s
tzitzits, you are speaking death.

              Lillie Rose Ministries 191
   David was in anguish, why?

…because David realized that he had just
spoken death to Saul…and that he had
 removed Saul’s authority.

Elijah distressed…

       Lillie Rose Ministries 193
       Elijah’s Mantle of Authority

Elijah was too weak to finish his job.
He went into a cave and hid his face in
his mantle (shawl, tallit) and complained
to God.
I Kings 19:13

                Lillie Rose Ministries 194
              I Kings 19:13
And, it was so, that when Elijah heard it that
he wrapped his face in his mantle [tallit],
and went out and stood in the entering in
 the cave…….

                     Lillie Rose Ministries 195
After moaning and groaning to God,
God told Elijah to get up and go
and anoint his successor, Elisha.

            Lillie Rose Ministries 196
When Elijah saw Elisha, he threw his
mantle of authority (tallit,prayer shawl)
over Elisha’s shoulders, thus appointing
his successor.
I Kings 19:19

                 Lillie Rose Ministries 197
             I Kings 19:19
So he [Elijah] departed thence, and found
Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was
plowing with the twelve yoke of oxen before
him and he with the twelfth: and Elijah
passed by him, and cast his mantle [tallit]
 upon him

                   Lillie Rose Ministries 198
        Authority in the Tzitzit
Another example of the authority in the tzitzit
is found in II Kings 19:19…

                   Lillie Rose Ministries 199
Elijah smote the waters with
mantle and the water was
divided.

               II Kings 2:8
And Elijah took his mantle [tallit] and wrapped
it together [gathered the 4 tzitzits], and
smote the waters, and they were divided
hither and thither, so that they two went
 over on dry ground.

II Kings 2:9

               Lillie Rose Ministries 202
             II Kings 2:9-10
And it came to pass, when they were gone
over, that Elijzh said unto Elisha, Ask what I
shall do for thee, before I be taken away
from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let
a double portion of thy spirit be upon me
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing;
nevertheless, if thou see me when I am
taken from thee it shall be so unto thee, but
if not it shall not be so.

                    Lillie Rose Ministries 203
               See me…?

Elijah was telling Elisha, if you remain by
my side and are faithful in serving God and
in serving with me, you will get the double
anointing. If you do not, you will not get
the double anointing you desire.

So, what did Elisha do…….?
                 Lillie Rose Ministries 204
   Elijah’s Authority Transferred
Elisha stayed by Elijah’s side. When Elijah was
raptured his mantle fell from the sky. Elisha picked
up the tallit and smote the water with the tzitzits
(symbol of authority) of his new mantle (tallit, prayer
shawl) and received a double portion of the
anointing.

                      Lillie Rose Ministries 205
           II Kings 2:11 & 13
11And it came to pass, as they still went on,
and talked, that behold, there appeared a
chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and
parted then both asunder; and Elijah sent
up by whirlwind into heaven [raptured].
13He took up also the mantle [tallit] of Elijah
that fell from him, and went back and stood
by the bank of the Jordon.

                    Lillie Rose Ministries 206
              II Kings 2:14-15
And he [Elisha] took the mantle [tallit] of Elijah that
fell from him and smote the waters [authority], and
said, Where is the Lord of Elijah? And when he
also had smitten the waters, they parted hither
and thither: and Elisha went over
And when the sons of the prophets which were to
view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit
[authority] of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they
went to meet him, and vowed themselves to the
  ground before him.

     Ruth Goes Under Authority
A widowed woman was left with 2 daughter-in-laws
(not Jewish) who also were without husbands.

Naomi wanted to go back to her homeland and she
encouraged her daughter-in-laws to go back to their
homelands to find husbands.

Ruth (a Moabite) would not leave Naomi as she felt
somehow linked to Naomi’s authority.

                   Boaz
Naomi had other relatives who could pay the
price for Ruth (a Moabitess) so that she
 could re-enter.
 Ruth 2:1

Boaz (a kinsman redeemer) was chosen to
take Ruth who had grace (undeserved
 mercy) upon her.

The Story of Ruth is a Picture
Boaz was to be Ruth’s redeemer. This is a
picture of what Christ is to us. He is our
kinsman redeemer!
We were once outside the covenant of God,
just as Ruth the Moabitis.

One from THE household Who was like us,
and He redeemed us!

       Are you under authority?
You can have the office and still not be under
authority.

You can try to enlarge your own borders and
still have no authority.

You may not be doing the really “bad” sins,
but we can still not be under His wings, authority.

                      Lillie Rose Ministries 217
   Under the Wings of Authority
When you are covered under God’s wings
(authority), you are saying, “I am marked. I
am in God’s army. You give the command,
God and I will go!”

You take your orders from God’s authority and
you march with them.

 The Hebrews crossed the line…
The Hebrews had begun to mingle in marriage
with the Canaanites, the Hittites, the
Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the
Moabites, the Eqyptians and the Amorites.

Why was this a bad thing?
The “holy seed” (the blood line of the promised
Messiah) mingled with the heathen. The princes and rulers
were especially guilty of this.

They were polluting the blood line of the promised Messiah..

were killed, except the messenger who came to give him the
news
