Graduate from an Event Management College Program in Two Semesters

What truly sets apart an Event Management college program? Is it whether the undertaking
offers practical experience? Does program length get considered? How about the affiliations the
event management college offering has in the industry? If so, Centennial College’s Event
Management – Festival and Conference has the cutting edge.

Taking just one year to complete, the undertaking offers students the training they need to
enter a field that, in 2006, employed 380,000 people. By 2015, it is projected to produce
121,000 new jobs. The emphasis in this event management college program is on the hands-
on learning that will most benefit students upon graduation. Making that practical approach
easier is the fact that the program is based at Centennial College’s Progress Campus. This
location boasts a conference centre that comprises of meeting rooms, including two large
ballrooms and a variety of mid-sized meeting or breakout rooms, complete with high-speed
Internet access, in-house audio/visual equipment and multimedia capabilities. In these facilities
students dress in uniforms similar to those they may be required to wear upon graduation from
the event management college program while running the centre.

Additionally, in the final semester of the offering, students put their on-campus practice into real
life application as they partake in a Festival, Event and Conference Management practicum
during which they gain practical experience in the coordination of a festival, event or conference
from preparing the needs analysis to the execution and evaluation of the final production. The
Event Management’s industry partners include: Sport Alliance of Ontario, Maple Leaf Sports &
Entertainment, Toronto Board of Trade and more.

Supplementing practical practice is an Event Management college curriculum that includes12
event management college courses. These courses allow students the opportunity to learn
through project work, essay writing, exams and more, and include: Communications and Media
Planning, Greening Your Festival, Event & Conference; Site Logistics and Operations
Management, Risk and Security Management, Event Budgeting, Networking and Industry
Relations and more.

To apply for this Event Management college offering, students must have completed a college
diploma or university degree in hospitality, tourism or related discipline. In addition, the event
management college program will also consider applicants with a diploma or degree in an
unrelated discipline who have related work experience as well as applicants with partial post
secondary education and relevant work experience in hospitality. Applicants must attend a
mandatory program admission session where they will complete a questionnaire and submit
your resume.

Upon graduation from the Event Management college students will be prepared to: develop and
implement financial initiatives based on event objectives through methods such as sponsorship
programs and fundraising initiatives; plan, design and coordinate effective site and facility
operations; apply the principles of marketing to festivals, events and conferences; apply
strategies for effective human resource management; create, plan and implement effective
programming for events; apply accounting and financial knowledge and skills to the operation of
events; apply business administration skills to the operation of events and apply the principles of
professionalism and ethics to event management.
