A SHIRE OF MUNDARING RECREATION FACILITY
Lake Leschenaultia… …a brief history
Lake Leschenaultia’s dam wall was constructed in 1897 by the Western Australian Government to provide water for steam engines travelling from Midland to Chidlows Well and areas further east. The line was closed in 1966 with the opening of the new line following the Avon River to Northam. The lake holds about 520 million litres of water and is up to 9 metres deep. The Shire of Mundaring has managed the lake since 1948.
Wonderful walks
A 3km stroll will take you around the lake on a wide and level path. See native trees and wild flowers and a wealth of natural bird life. For those with extra energy why not enjoy the 6km bush walk. One of the many attractions is the water itself. Easily accessible with a number of beaches, even the youngest of children can paddle and swim in safety. The lake is surrounded by native forest, which is the home for kangaroos, possums, bandicoots, echidna, native birds and wild flowers.
