A/ Precarioussness of the supply…
   Only 4 to 7% of world production are subject to international trade;

  Dependance up to 75% of our imports from one country (Thailand)…




               B/ Imports increasingly important...
       Apparent consumption of rice in Senegal :                800 000 T in 2007,
      covered up to 20% by national production;

      Rice imports of Senegal: 728 000              T in      2008, and projected
      production of 765 000 T by the year 2010

Land management: Law on the National Domain; Irrigated area

Research achievement :plant material with high yield potential,
technical routes (sequences) oriented towards an intensive
cropping, management and preservation of soil fertility,
enhancement of food agricultural product by the FTI (Food Technology Institute).

                      AUTOSUFFICIENCY
               SUB-SECTORS STRATEGIES
 Specific strategies for each area or type of rice have been developed

and applied to the following components:

   Land fittings ;

   Equipment with irrigation tools ;

   Financing of the production, production, post-harvest and marketing
    equipment .

 Landfittings and land use in irrigated area

- Recover the abandoned 22 000 ha in the Senegal River Valley

- Repair the 4 200 ha in the Basin of the Anambé ;

- Ensure a cropping intensity of 1.5
- Continue the landfittings

Marketing
     •Creating private professional organizations responsible for the marketing of
     produce;

     •Establishment of a marketing fund ;


Strategies for the rainfed rice cropping

   Fight against salinity and the silting up of the Bas-fonds;

   Strengthening supervision ;

   Introduction of adapted varieties ;

   Development and protection of land ;

   Appropriate funding mechanisms (micro credit) ;

Agricultural machinery equipment
    •Developing the use of the thresher ASI

    •Promotion of the intermediate motorization of

     the harvest: engine powered mowers (ISA);

    •Rehabilitation and increase of the existing fleet of tractors;

    •Acquire supplementary irrigation Equipment


Improving the processing


   Equipment for rice mills for sorting, grading and whitening in the context of a
    quality label ;

   Creation of new rice mills in areas where needed ;
                  NRDS GOVERNANCE


 Focusing on principles of consultation, accountability and evaluation

 Promote partnership with all groups of industry players: producers, processors,

traders, agricultural service providers, government agencies and private farm advisory,

research, equipment of the rural world, communication professionals.

 Institutionalize a framework for dialogue and exchanges to ensure monitoring,

evaluation of the implementation of PNAR.
