Toys R Us Project

An 8 year-old child is moving to the United States to live with a
new family. The new parents are very excited, but need to go to
Toys R Us to purchase things for their new child. They are willing
to spend up to \$1,500 on his toys. Your job will be to determine
what they should purchase for the child.

Directions:
1. Familiarize yourself with the Toys R Us website. (In the
URL box of your browser, you can type in www.toysrus.com
to view it.)
2. Decide what sections of the website you should look in to
find the toys.
3. Start compiling a list of toys you think an 8 year-old child
would want.
4. Find the toys from your list on the website. Be sure to
record the actual price and the rounded price.
5. Find which toy costs the most and the least amount. Be sure
to answer whether you rounded to the nearest 10 or 100 and
why.
6. Determine the total amount of money the parents should
bring to Toys R Us. Be sure to use your rounded numbers.
7. Add up the items using the actual prices to determine the
true total.
8. Look at the two totals and decide if it is a good idea for the
parents to round the totals or not. Did the rounded total
end up close enough to the actual total?
