                                   Sukkah Building & Sukkot
Sunday - October 4 2:00 PM Private Home
                                   Service/Celebration/Potluck
This year for Sukkot, we're going to work some, observe some, and relax some in our communal
        Jewish sort of way.
Starting at around 2:00 PM, we'll build our community Sukkah. Bring a battery-powered electric
        drill/driver if you have one.
Then, in the late afternoon, around 4:30 PM we'll have our Sukkot service/celebration with a
potluck to follow. People not wishing to help build the Sukkah can come in time for the service.
And, like last year, anyone seeking sachach or sturdy alder roof beams for their own Sukkah is
welcome to stop by Lynne & Marc's place to cut some down during the week prior to Sukkot.
        Call 385-5032 for more information.

From the President
Wow! As the days get shorter, the temps a bit cooler (and what a glorious summer it was...almost made me
forget about the snow!), Jews around the world note that the changing season also indicates the the New
Year is upon us! Once again, Bet Shira will be offering a full schedule of services, as indicated in this
newsletter's calendar. Please note the different starting times from years past, and, if you do plan to attend,
note that we will be making a greater effort to begin promptly at the scheduled times. The High HolyDays
have come to mean many things...an opportunity for new hope, serious introspection and evaluation, new
beginnings, renewed friendships, good food. However you partake of the holidays, the Board wishes you

High Holiday Services Participation
It's time to start thinking about the upcoming High Holidays. If you would like to participate with reading
Torah, an aliyah, or another reading in any of the High Holidays services, leave a message at
 betshira@yahoo.com
Sweetness for the New Year
We traditionally have apples & honey, and honey cakes at the oneg on Erev Rosh Hashanah and at the
kiddush on Rosh Hashanah. Please consider bringing those things to share with other members when you
 attend the services.
Yom Kippur Yizkor Service
As is traditional, we will be having a Yizkor service at the conclusion of Yom Kippur services. We’ve saved
the Yizkor list from last year. If you would like to make any changes or additions, or if you would like to know
who you have on the list, please leave a message at <betshira@yahoo.com> by the morning of September
 24.
Religious School
Plans are to start religious school for this year on September 24. The class will meet on Thursday nights
from 6:00 to 7:30. We're currently looking for a new location for the school because we’ve outgrown the
homes that were used in the past.
The “theme” for this year is "My Jewish Year" which will prove to be fun and interesting.
Learning Hebrew will be a required part of our curriculum this year; in fact the first 45 minutes of each class
 will be devoted to Hebrew.
“My Jewish Year” will be the content for the second 45 minutes of each class.
Religious school registration forms will be sent by email next week.
