THE HOUSTON FIGURE SKATING CLUB
CLUB ICE RULES
(Rev. 10/2010)
The Houston Figure Skating Club (est. 1947), a not-for-profit organization, is the oldest of the five
US Figure Skating –sanctioned skating clubs in the Houston area. Our purpose is to support the
advancement of our skaters, encourage good sportsmanship and carry out the general policies of
the US Figure Skating.
RESPECT OUR SPORT
Participation in Figure Skating requires performing difficult skills on a potentially dangerous
surface. All skaters, adult and children, more and less experienced, should watch out for other
skaters. It is imperative for your safety!
All skaters who have a full membership with the Houston Figure Skating Club are eligible for Club
Ice, which is generally held on most Sundays from 11am – 12pm at the Ice at the Galleria.
Private lessons are not allowed during Club Ice.
SKATER’S CONDUCT
1. Be courteous to others. Look out for each other and give the “right of way” to the
appropriate skater. Ex – right of way to the skater skating his/her program.
2. Skaters should not stand in the way of other skaters who may be practicing their program
or practicing a jump or spin. Skaters standing and talking present a danger.
3. Skaters must respect the ice, no kicking or intentionally making holes in the ice.
4. Keep moving. If you fall, get up immediately! Do not sit on the ice. If you must stop, do so
at the side walls only. Put your music in line for playing and keep rotation going.
5. All skaters should show respect for other skaters. All skaters are entitled to equal use of
the ice. A friendly and courteous “Excuse me…” works wonders in educating new skaters.
Apologize if you accidently interfere with another skater’s practice.
6. No gum on ice at any time.
7. No food is allowed on boards or on ice at any time.
8. Water bottles must stay on the boards.
9. Athletic wear is suggested.
10. Please help keep the facility looking new and clean by picking up after yourself.
11. Please pick up your music at the end of the session. HFSC will not be responsible for music
left after a session.
12. Hostile behavior, verbal abuse, physical threats or attacks, profanity, yelling, or any other
inappropriate behavior will result in immediate removal from the ice/arena and possible
revocation of club ice privileges.
13. Use the center of the ice for spins.
14. Keep the corners free for jumping practice.

DISCIPLINE POLICY
The Ice Monitor reserves the right to remove any skater from the ice session for violations
regarding safety, such as standing on ice, not looking before re-entry to ice, rudeness or aggressive
behavior, etc. for a period of 10 minutes. The incident will be documented and reported to the
Ice/Rules Chair and/or President of the club.
Serious or repeated violations of Club Ice Rules will be reported to the Ice/Rules Committee, which
will then bring violators to the Board of Directors.
The Board will then follow these steps:
1st offense: Verbal notice to the skater (or parent) and coach
2nd offense: Written letter from the Board to the skater (or parent) and coach
3rd offense: Loss of Club Ice privileges for 1 week without reimbursement
4th offense: Loss of Club Ice privileges for the entire season
Be aware and considerate of others on the ice at all times.
Discourteous and rude behavior of parents and guardians may result in similar consequences.
I have read, and agree to follow, the HFSC Club Ice Rules.
