TRY-OUT SCHEDULE
Monday, August ???? 9:00 AM ALL seniors and returning varsity players
Tuesday, August ???? 9:00 AM all incoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors
Tryouts will vary for each team, but as a rule, the first three to five days of the season will be the tryout period. Tryouts are
mandatory. Athletes who know they will miss one or more days of tryouts must get the approval of the head coach prior to
leaving.
Practices will run an average of two hours per practice with most teams running two practice sessions per day until school begins.
After teams are formed and school begins, practices and/or games usually run Monday through Saturday each week throughout the
season
Previous (sport) experience may help, but is not mandatory for selection to the program. We encourage all students who are
interested in the sport to tryout for the program. All individuals trying out for (sport) are eligible to play on the varsity team. The
J.V. and freshmen teams are building programs for the varsity, so positions are filled by underclassmen. The coaches will assess
players, taking into consideration different criteria; skill level, motivation, attitude, potential, and grade level. The goal of the
coaching staff is to place athletes in the best situation for the success of the team and the individuals’ volleyball development.
The coaching staff hopes you are getting excited for the season to begin, and in doing so, you are beginning to get yourself into
good physical condition. The more physically fit you are in August, when (sport) begins; the easier it will be for you to
comprehend and perform the skills being taught and the drills being done. It also helps eliminate the potential for an injury. Our
suggestion is to get a friend and do endurance jogging, sprint runs, and stairs. Also, do a lot of jumping (the best way to improve
your vertical jump is by jumping). The conditioning should be done under the supervision of your parents and/or trainer
and should not be attempted until your physician has cleared you! Whatever you do will put you one-step ahead of the rest
and benefit your potential for fall tryouts.
