Original works completed in the last two years by artists 18 years and older in the continental US. Works must be for sale. Submit slides or digital images for entry postmarked by September 29, 2007. Deliver accepted work November 26-30. Up to $1,400 in awards and opportunities for future exhibits given.
Statement of Purpose The Arts & Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition was developed to provide a forum for artists on a national scale to compete and display their work. The selected art features both traditional and non-traditional work and will be exhibited at the Emporium Center in downtown Knoxville. Eligibility Open to all artists 18 years and older living within the continental United States. Submit only work completed within the last two years. Entries must be original works in the following categories: Painting (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and mixed media); Graphic Arts (pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, conte, colored pencil, and printmaking); 3-D (sculpture, ceramic, and fibers); and Photography (color, black and white, digital). Works may not have been previously exhibited in any Alliance exhibition at the Emporium Center or in any Alliance satellite gallery (City Mayor’s office, County Mayor’s office, Knoxville Area Chamber Partnership, East Tennessee Foundation, Knoxville News Sentinel Gallery). The maximum allowed size is 60” x 60” in any direction (must fit through a 60” doorway) including frame or stand. Weight is not to exceed 75 lbs. unless special arrangements are made. Works must be suitably framed/mounted and wired for installation. Plexiglas is required for all shipped 2-D works and recommended for hand-delivered works. 3-D works should be sturdy and stable or otherwise secured to a base. The juror reserves the right to disqualify any work not suitably presented or that varies from the submitted slide/image. All work must be for sale. Entry Fees The nonrefundable entry fee is $40 for up to three works (Arts & Culture Alliance members pay $25). Diptychs and triptychs are considered one work. Entry Procedure Works are juried by 35mm slides or digital images (on CD, 1-3MB in size recommended). Each 2-D work may be represented by one slide/digital image, and each 3-D work may be represented by up to three separate slides/digital images: two full views and one detail view. Send 35mm slides with 2” x 2” plastic or cardboard mounts (glass mounts are not accepted). Indicate front, top, artist, title, medium, and size on each slide. Slides (in a plastic sleeve) or CD, entry form, and entry fees must be submitted with a self-addressed stamped envelope (size #10) postmarked by September 29, 2007. Slides and CDs without a SASE are not returned. Declined slides/CDs will be returned with notification; the juror will hold accepted images for comparison. Artists whose works are accepted for exhibition are requested to submit a resume/biography upon notification of acceptance. The Alliance reserves the right to use artist information and slides for publicizing the event and/or on the website. Shipment and Delivery Shipping artwork to and from the exhibit is the responsibility of the artist. All shipped work must be prepaid. A check for return shipping must be received in an amount based on the stated insurance value of the piece. Artist may use his/her own shipping company preference, and is responsible for scheduling delivery and pick up of work. Works must be shipped in very sturdy cardboard boxes or crates. Up to $50 will be charged for replacement crates and boxes not safe enough to return works. All shipped 2-D works must be under Plexiglas. Please be sure to include detailed packing instructions along with shipped pieces. Works must be labeled with title and artist’s name. Late or damaged work is not accepted. Liability Receipt of the completed form constitutes your agreement with all conditions established in the prospectus. The Arts & Culture Alliance provides insurance for the exhibition. Unclaimed hand-delivered work is not insured after the posted pick-up date. It is the artist’s responsibility to provide all insurance and shipping costs on works during shipment. Consent to reproduce works photographically is assumed to be granted unless stated otherwise. Return of Work Exhibited hand-delivered work must be picked up at the close of the exhibit on Monday, January 14, from 9am5pm. Shipped works will be crated and ready for pick up by January 25. It is the artist’s responsibility to provide postage and insurance to and from the exhibit, and to schedule delivery and pick up of the work. Nothing will be shipped COD. Reception and Awards Ceremony: Friday, January 4, 5-9pm Last day of exhibit: Friday, January 11 Pick-up work (no work is released before end of show): Monday, January 14, 9am-5pm **No work is released before end of show. Shipped artwork will be returned as soon as possible following the closing of the exhibit. Juror Nandini Makrandi Jestice holds a joint position as Curator of Contemporary Art at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, TN and Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Before moving to Chattanooga, she was a curator at the Knoxville Museum of Art and worked with the Cameron Museum of Art in Wilmington, NC. Nandini has a Master of Arts in Museum Science and Art History from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Sociology from Mercer University in Georgia. She participates regularly in the region as a juror, guest curator, and speaker and is a member of the American Association of Museums and the Southeastern Museums Conference. Awards Up to $1,400 in prizes/cash awards as designated by the juror, whose decision is final. Group and/or solo exhibitions may also be given. Exhibition may be offered to the winner(s) at a time to be arranged. A selection committee will decide upon opportunities for future exhibits for both individual artists and group shows. Sales & Commission Every effort is made to promote sales. All exhibited work must be for sale. All sales are handled by the Arts & Culture Alliance. A 20% commission for members and 40% for non-members will be donated to the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville. The Arts & Culture Alliance National Juried Exhibition is sponsored by the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville and receives financial assistance from the Tennessee Arts Commission, a state agency.
