									HOLIDAY SHOPPING
     SPREE
    Miss DeFeudis’ Grade 3
     students at Houghton
   Elementary School will be
shopping for the holiday season!
           Introduction
Just like many of the adults in your life,
you will have the chance to do some
Holiday Spending during this season of
giving! It doesn’t matter what your
background is or in what you believe. It
is always a great feeling to give back to
your favorite people, even yourself.
          Your Shopping
              Task
You will be given a budget of $200 dollars
to spend this season of giving. You do not
have to spend it all, but you must buy at
least 10 gifts. Your task is to select a
present for some of your loved ones. You
will search the internet using a variety of
websites and newspaper flyers or catalogs
to find those presents. And yes, you can
select something for yourself if you’d like!
                 The Math Tasks
1. Identify each person you will be buying a gift. Use their first
name and age. Anyone over 18 years old can be identified as
     “adult.”
2. Search the internet using a variety of websites and look
through flyers to find gifts for those you’d like to buy for. Be
sure to print out a copy of your gift or cut out the picture
from the flyer in order to prove your price.
3. Make a list/chart of at least 10 gifts including the price and
     picture.
4. Round each price to the nearest dollar. Remember your rules
of rounding! (five and above give it a shove, four and below,
     let it go)
5. Order your gifts from least to greatest.
6. Estimate & Add Prices.
7. Place your work into a booklet and write out your final checks
in your Holiday Spending Check Book.
