Subject: Computer Science Job Opportunities in a Start-up Company Dear All: A dual-homed (Chicago, IL and Hydrabad, India) start-up company is looking for exceptionally gifted individuals to join their software development team. The company is still in stealth mode, so not much is disclosed about the exact nature of the work. However, as far as I understand the work is unlikely to be run-of-the-mill. In fact, they are "forced" to draw on from high-end research ideas. They are looking for filling in the following three positions: 1. Artificial Intelligence/Rule based engines. 2. Languages, Grammars, Compiler construction, Ontologies, Knowledge Representations. 3. Parallel Programming, Grid Computing. What I know of these positions: (1) is for someone who can write software with "provable properties" that is capable of taking decisions about complex scenarios based on *very large* amount of empirical data; (2) is for someone who can write a language (i.e., compiler) for representing and handling large amount of data. (3) is self-explaining (efficient computation). Deep knowledge in respective areas is required (e.g., Proof theory/lambda calculus) as well as actual software development skills (e.g., the person applying for (2) must have written compilers before---standard coursework on compilers is unlikely to be sufficient). Ideally the company wants to fill in the positions by the end of May. If you know of suitable candidates (students, your acquaintances), please have them contact me.
