British born, London based menswear designer Martine Rose launches her Spring
Summer 12 collection at the prestigious MAN show, as part of London Fashion
Week.

The new collection moves on from the structured and military feel of AW11, whilst
maintaining an innovative use of fabrics and an acute attention to detail that has
become a trademark for the Martine Rose brand.

Drawing inspiration from the 70’s Californian skate and surf scene as well as the
legendary Zephyr Team, Martine’s latest collection uses sheer fabrics and washed
denims, reminiscent of the sun bleached sidewalks of cult documentary Dogtown ‘Z’
boys.

The SS12 collection demonstrates the importance of energy, youth and individuality
within fashion. Martine Rose looked to icons such as Kurt Cobain for inspiration; his
ability to subvert the perception of the 20th century man, with his appearances in
dresses and skirts, lent to the idea of wearing sheer culottes over trousers.

Offering a sense of freedom to the wearer, Martine Rose garments command
recognition of the fact that fashion must encompass a confidence in expressing
individuality and difference from the pack.

For SS12 Martine Rose has collaborated with Icon Brand, a rapidly up-and-coming
men’s accessories label from Australia. Their jewellery collections are synonymous
with individuality, being designed with the ethos of “something found not something
bought” and featuring found objects from across the globe. With Martine’s
exploration of 1970’s skate culture, the brand is featured heavily through customised
embellishments and men’s jewellery components which are utilised in accessories
and on the garments themselves.
