Discover Adventure unveils new European city
marathon walks
The leading specialist in trekking and cycling challenges worldwide for charitable
fundraising, Discover Adventure, has launched four new trekking trips that take in some
of Europe’s most exciting capital cities.

Following the success of the 26-mile London Stadia Trekathon - which takes walkers past many
of the venues from the London Olympics - Discover Adventure has decided to repeat the format
in four popular European cities - Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris and Edinburgh.

Led by highly experienced leaders, the new 26-mile city treks are a truly unique way to
explore each capital, carefully designed to take in ‘must see’ and lesser-known sights in a
short amount of time. The treks take place on one day of a weekend trip, giving participants the
chance to relax in the city too.

Participants can join in purely for their own enjoyment or, if they wish, choose to heighten their
sense of achievement by raising money for a charity of their choice at the same time. Discover
Adventure offers the very best deal possible for charities; at least 60% of fundraising targets go
direct to the charity concerned.

NEW European city treks:

Amsterdam is a walkers’ dream, renowned for its flat terrain and an abundance of canals,
narrow streets, bridges and barges. Take it all in on this trek from the central canal rings to the
suburbs and parks. Sights en route including Anne Frank’s House, the red-light district, De
Gooyer windmill, the bohemian latin quarter of De Pijp and the famous floating flower market.
Departing 30 August 2013, the trip includes two nights’ B&B, return travel by Eurostar,
Discover Adventure leaders plus lunch, water and snacks during the trek. Payment options are
either £300 pp or a fundraising target of £750 pp if raising money for charity (£99 registration fee
applies).

Barcelona offers the perfect mix of coast and hills, with this trek taking full advantage of the
beautiful surroundings. Walkers start in style by Barceloneta Beach and adventure through the
old Gothic Quarter to the shady wooded hills behind the city and the mountain of Montjüic, with
its Olympic Park. Standout sights along the way include Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and Parc
Güell, Las Ramblas and Camp Nou Football Stadium. Departing 10 May 2013, the trip includes
two nights’ B&B and Discover Adventure leaders plus lunch, water and snacks during the trek.
Flights extra. Payment options are either £300 pp or a fundraising target of £750 pp if raising
money for charity (£99 registration fee applies).

Paris boasts too many famous landmarks – it’s a visual treat for walkers every step of the way.
Kicking off and culminating at the most iconic - the Eiffel Tower - this trek passes all of the key
sights, as well as pretty neighbourhoods and the River Seine. What’s more, the trek takes place
during Bastille Weekend, giving participants the chance to check out the fine parades before
they head home. Departing 12 July 2013, the trip includes two nights’ B&B, return travel by
Eurostar, Discover Adventure leaders plus lunch, water and snacks during the trek. Payment
options are either £300 pp or a fundraising target of £750 pp if raising money for charity (£99
registration fee applies).
Edinburgh is another breathtaking place for outdoor exploration, boasting rich history, culture
and many majestic views. Begin by journeying up famous Arthur’s Seat, then venturing east to
Leith before returning to the city centre, passing the medieval Old Town, Castle and Royal Mile.
Departing 7 June 2013, the trip includes two nights’ B&B, Discover Adventure leaders and
lunch, water and snacks during the trek. Payment options are either £200 pp or a fundraising
target of £500 pp if raising money for charity (£99 registration fee applies).

As well as city treks, adventurists can also choose to hike 26 miles in one day across many rural
settings in the UK, including:

The South Downs (departing 18 May 2013)
Hadrian's Wall Trekathon (departing 22 June 2013)
Stonehenge to Avebury Trekathon (departing 29 June 2013)
