Hours of Work:                                       30 hours per week

Job Purpose

To provide a high quality, effective, sensitive and appropriate support service to:

      Young people moving into or establishing independent accommodation
      Young people whose accommodation may be at risk of breaking down or
      Young people living in supported accommodation managed by Spark of Genius

Key Duties and Responsibilities

To develop a supportive relationship through which residents can identify their goals in
terms of future housing, employment and independence, and work with the residents to
achieve these where appropriate. To encourage residents to work towards agreed
objectives as identified in individual support plans. The main areas of support offered are
as follows:

      Evening and weekend work is a mandatory in this post
      As agreed with line managers, participate in an out of hours, on call system on a
       rota basis
      To carry an ongoing caseload
      Work with young people within an agreed period to help them develop the
       necessary skills to live as independently as possible.
      To agree, and work to, a structured individual support plan for each young
       person that is appropriate to their aspirations and needs.
      Agree with the young person a process for the withdrawal of support
      Ensure young people are equipped to achieve their aspirations and goals in line
       with Spark of Genius contractual obligations.
      Work with young people to ensure that they are linked in to other appropriate
       services e.g. drug, alcohol and mental health services.
      Work with the young person to maximise opportunities for access to education,
       training, employment and making a positive contribution to their local community,
       including service delivery and service development.
      Ensure the young persons income is maximised by ensuring they receive their
       correct entitlements

      To operate appropriate administrative systems ensuring files are accurate and up
       to date, and requirements can be met, eg completion of appropriate paperwork
      In collaboration with the young person manage the living environment, ensuring
       Housing Benefit claims are established and that rent and accommodation
       charges are paid/collected
      To work to organisational and individual targets in order to provide an efficient
       and effective service to young people.
      Ensure that all situations that may suggest a potential risk to the welfare of a
       vulnerable young people and adults are reported to line managers as soon as
       possible.
      Liaise with other agencies, statutory and voluntary, acting as advocate and
       support for individuals to ensure that they receive appropriate support services.
      Give practical and personal support to young people (eg. befriending, housing
       and benefit advice, information on health care, legal rights, budgeting advice etc.)
       to encourage them to be able to take greater control over their own situations.
      Ensure that all duties are carried out in a professional manner and in accordance
       with the guidelines and policies of Spark of Genius
      Attend training courses, supervision sessions and meetings as required
      Carry out such duties as may be commensurate with the post as agreed by line
       managers
      Complete and maintain administrative records as required
      Awareness and responsibility for the health and safety of the premises, service
       users, colleagues and yourself
      The post holder may be reasonably expected to undertake other duties
       commensurate with the level of responsibility that may be allocated from time to
       time.
