RE: Dick Siebert Fall Baseball Instructional League

As of this writing I am sure all of you are very busy with the 2011 High School Baseball season.
Best wishes for a successful year and a strong finish to the campaign.

The reason for this letter is to bring to your attention an opportunity for some of your baseball
players that are interested in a baseball experience this coming fall. In 2001 we inaugurated the
Dick Siebert Fall Baseball Instructional League on the U of Minnesota campus (Dick Siebert
Field) and Big Willow Park in Minnetonka. In 2002 we turned people away as the league filled
very quickly. We had a six-team league with fifteen kids on each team and had a great fall
season. We expanded the league to eight teams in 2004 and expanded again in 2006 to a ten team
league. The league plays over six weekends in late August, through September and into early
October with a total of eighteen games being played for each team. We intend to have the league
again this fall and would like your help in getting the word out to your players that are interested.

The NCAA rules state that we can take players on a first come- first serve basis and can
only restrict the league by age and number. Since we are aiming for a ten-team league in 2011
with a total of 160 players, we are asking you to make this opportunity available to your BEST
players so they can register right away and be guaranteed a spot in the league. We are restricting
the league to the graduation years of 2012 and 2013. This league is not intended to take players
away from their fall sport activity and participation in this league is not a prerequisite for
recruitment. We do have many players currently on the Gopher roster that played in the Siebert
Fall League in HS. We had a great time last fall helping kids get better and want to continue to
improve the overall quality of the league competition by securing your help in finding the best
kids that are out there that want this experience. Many players have been scouted and recruited
out of the Siebert Fall League at all levels of college competition.

Please email Lee Swenson ( or me back at for
additional information or questions. A player does NOT have to be recommended by the high
school coach to play in the league. We would like to begin accepting applications by June 1 for
the league that begins in late August 2011.

Thanks again for the great job you do in developing baseball in Minnesota. We look forward to
hearing about your kids that want to play this fall.
