Product Description-Quilt National 2005: The Best of
Presented on these exquisite pages are the most beautiful, most innovative quilts being designed today, all selected from the
world-class 14th Biennial Quilt National Exhibition. For almost 30 years, the exposition--which travels throughout America--has
served as a showcase for contemporary quilt artists who expand the boundaries of the craft. Large, spectacular color
photographs, and the artists' personal commentary, will fill home quilters with inspiration over and over again. All the pieces are
genuine artworks meant for display rather than practical use, and they set the standard and serve as the model for other art
quilts. From computer-generated images to abstract patterns to human figures, these designs are state of the art.

This review is from: Quilt National 2005: The Best of Contemporary Quilts (Hardcover) I don't know whats going on in the art
quilt world these days, but it seems to me that the more you can change the structure of the fabric, the more chance you have to
get into a venue like this. These quilts pretty much all look alike to me, and it appears to me that the artists have qualified for this
venue by slopping, dropping, and plopping as much gunk on the fabric as it can hold. There is more to art quilting than surface
design! I do have to say that there are some truely breathtaking works in this book, but over all I was extremely disappointed.
There is more to art quilting than pure abstraction and embellishment!

This review is from: Quilt National 2005: The Best of Contemporary Quilts (Hardcover) I would recommend this book to
anyone who is into art quilts. The Quilt National exhibit is a good indicator of trends in fiber art. I received this book shortly
before I went to Quilt Festival in Houston, where Quilt National 2005 happened to be included in the special exhibits. If you can't
see the quilts in person, get the book!
