The Sisters of Mercy is an international community of Roman Catholic women who dedicate their lives
to God through vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and service. They live a life of prayer and service,
responding to the needs of people facing poverty, illness and a lack of education. They sponsor and
serve in more than 200 organizations — such as schools and hospitals — that address those needs.
The West Midwest (WMW) Community, with its central office in Omaha, Nebraska, is currently
searching for a Communications, Design & Technology Specialist.

Position Summary
The Communications, Design & Technology Specialist serves as the key in-house resource for technology
related communications for the WMW Community and as keeper of the Mercy brand identity. This
position is responsible for creation and maintenance of graphics, web content, video content and
functionality for the WMW Community intranet, external website, and social media vehicles. The
Communications Design & Technology Specialist coordinates with leadership, ministries and staff
departments to ensure accuracy and consistency across all media channels for both internal and
external audiences.

    Demonstrate an understanding of the WMW Community’s vision; makes appropriate decisions
      based upon broad knowledge of operations and strategies.
    Develop and maintain a general knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church, current issues, and
      potential problems and be prepared to answer questions and respond to inquiries.

    Create, update and maintain content for the intranet, internet, and social media vehicles (i.e.
     Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and the Mercy blog).
    Collaborate with the Institute on placing WMW Community stories in appropriate social media
    Identify existing stories and write stories for placement in media internal and external
     publications and on the website.
    Consult with departments needing materials for public distribution.
    Identify ways to positively promote the WMW Community within the communities it serves.
    Remain informed on WMW Community issues and actively seek out knowledge on Community
     activities and programs that may be of interest to external and internal audiences.
    Serve as the primary point of contact on information updates provided by justice, new
     membership, ministry, etc.
    Write, issue and follow up on news releases to effectively communicate programs and
     initiatives; respond to media inquiries generated by the releases.

         Work with Communications Director to establish and maintain positive relationships with the
          media that encourages reporters to consider WMW Community stories for publication.
         Serve as a back-up to the editors of the online publications.

     Serve as in-house designer for WMW Community materials, including but not limited to, print
        and online newsletters, direct mail, ads, brochures, special event invitations, presentation
        materials, and other design/publications needs as required.
     Coordinate with Communications Director to assess, develop, and ensure consistent execution
        and communication of the Mercy “brand.”
     Develop, disseminate, manage, and maintain WMW Community identity standards and style
        guidelines to effectively support the Mercy “brand.”
     Develop ads for external newspapers and publications as requested by Communications
     Write copy, develop graphics and design publications working within logo guidelines for the
        Institute; Coordinate with third party agency as needed.
     Assist with ensuring community wide adherence to logo guidelines.
     Create films or videos for advertising campaigns; Take photos and video of sisters, ministries,
        events and edit for internal and external use.

    Oversee strategy, content, design, and maintenance of the intranet site and external website,
       serving as key contact for web development, assigning and managing completion of web
       troubleshooting, and managing website access.
    Monitor and update the external website, including adding new content, incorporating new
    Manage all video production, converting and editing for use on web based communications.
    Analyze traffic, monitor statistics and oversee search engine optimization.
    Create templates for email communication in Constant Contact as needed.
    Collaborate with Information Technology Department staff to coordinate and plan for
       performance and updates of software and other technical issues.


    Bachelor’s degree in communications, design, technology or related field and/or a combination
       of education and equivalent experience.
    Demonstrated experience maintaining internet and intranet sites using content management
       software (Joomla, WordPress).
    Experience writing news releases, articles, newsletters for publication.
    Experience managing and customizing SharePoint for organizational intranet.
    Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite including Acrobat, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Photoshop
       and/or other graphic design and publishing software. Design portfolio samples required.
    Experience with Adobe Premiere video-editing software and/or other professional video editing
    Experience using digital photography and video equipment.

         Experience with online tools such as Constant Contact for email campaign and survey
          distribution highly desirable.

     Experience working in a religious organization.
     Experience with database management.
     Familiarity with Google analytics, Ad words, and/or SEO strongly preferred.
     Understanding and appreciation of the traditions and culture of the Sisters of Mercy.
     Familiarity with the structures and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
     Experience in photography and videography of events and utilizing content in web based
