									         Parenting Classes
                                     Winter 2008
Supporting Your Child’s Education – This series focuses on ways parents can help
their children succeed academically. Topics include promoting your child's self-
confidence, fostering good learning habits, dealing with children's discouragement,
participating in children's homework, and using parent-teacher conferences to
advocate for your child. The focus is on children ages 5 to 10.
            Facilitator: Heidi Crane
            Option 1: Wednesdays, January 23 to February 27 @ Chenowith
                         Elementary School; 6-8 pm
            Option 2: Thursdays, March 6 to April 17 – except 3/27 (Spring Break);
                         Location to be Announced; 6-8 pm
            Dinner:      Adults $3 & Kids free (optional)
            Childcare: Free Child Care Available
            Limit:       20 adults (minimum 8 to start class)
            Fee:         FREE
                               Pre-Registration Required

Terrific TWOs – This series focuses on children who are beginning to talk and have
their own ideas. If offers information on temperament, discipline as learning, and
what skills TWOs need to be safe and successful as they move into the outside world.
            Facilitator:         Anne Kelly
            Time/Dates:          9-11 am; Fridays, January 11 to March 14
            Location:            Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC)
            Childcare:           Free child development program for 2-year-olds
                                 available during class.
            Limit:               20 adults (minimum 8 to start class)
            Fee:                 $25 per family -- Scholarships are available

Make Parenting A Pleasure
  o   Learn the importance of taking care of yourself so you can better care of your
      child
  o   Learn practical stress management and communication skills
  o   Gain greater understanding of your child
  o   Learn effective parenting skills and positive approaches to discipline
  o   Build a support network

  This curriculum is built on the following assumptions:
  o   Parents love their children and want what's best for them
  o   Parenting is the most important and challenging job there is
  o   Parents and children are all learners
  o   Parents are their children's first and most important teachers
  o   More is expected of parents than children
  o   There are many positive ways to parent
  o   Every parent and child is unique

                         Apr. 14, 21 & 28 and May 5, 2008
