From Where I Sit:

Unbelievably, Fall is upon us.
What is it about this time of year that evokes in some of us a sort
of melancholy; a bittersweet nostalgia, a longing for something
we can’t identify? One writer called it “the annual lonesomeness
of Summer’s end”. In the song “Falling Leaves”, our protagonist
misses his lost love most of all “when Autumn leaves start to November Birthdays
fall.” Many of us associate Summer with life: things growing,
multiplying, thriving. We associate Fall with things dying, things 3-Megan Shelton 4-Opal Montgomery
ending; and that saddens us. Unless of course, we’re that 8-Jacee Justice 10-Mary Crecelius
homeowner out there who has a 2-acre lawn to mow weekly. Or 12-Sharon Lukat 13-Sabrina Bell
unless we’re like Kathy’s and my grand-daughter Savannah, 13-Susan Burkhardt 15-Dusty Burnham
whose favorite season has always been Fall, a carry-over from 18-Gabriel Knight 20-Lois Roberts
when as a teen-ager she saw it as a time of new beginnings – a 21-Eli Allen 21-Anna Carothers
new school year attendant with new clothes, brand-new school 23-Larry Wyatt 26-Hannah Merritt
supplies, new classes, new teachers, a chance to start over. 27-Kathryn Strunk 27-Judy Atkins
It could be that with the harvest season comes a deep-seated
feeling of anxiety harking back to our pioneer roots, that we
haven’t done all we could have done or should have done this
                                                                                   November Anniversaries
summer and now it’s too late. We’re reaping what we sowed
(Galatians 6) and we didn’t sow enough to last us through the 26-Chad & Berni Allen
winter. 29-Dan & Susan Burkhardt
Did we plant enough seeds of peace, harmony, hope and
forgiveness? Did we laugh enough, did we love enough, did we
share enough; did we give enough? If not, remember our God is
not a God of sorrow for lost chances. Our God is a God of new
beginnings, of second chances for the late planters. Although it December Birthdays
may be too late for this year’s growing season, remember those
bulbs we plant now will come to glorious fruition in the Spring. 2-Ben Brown 4-Robert Harp
And it’s never the wrong season to plant those seeds of 8- Edith Coles 10-Daniel Atkins
encouragement, joy and compassion. Remember, Paul told the 12-Alia Satterfield 15- Delbert Atkins
Corinthians “the one who sows bountifully will also reap 16-Jacie Kalk 20-Alex Crews
bountifully.” Let’s plant with an eye and heart toward a 24-Austina Montgomery 24-Bill Parke
bountiful harvest.
