Interactive Art Tours!
Visit the Visual Arts Center for a free docent-led tour of our six art galleries. All ages and group sizes welcome! What is a docent? A docent (say: doe-sent) is a guide who takes you through the exhibit, sharing information and helping you make discoveries about art! Groups can also select one of our Interactive Art Tour options:
1. Design Discoveries Using cards that showcase the 5 design elements, search for these important parts of art in the gallery. Line, Shape, Color, Texture, and Form will be discovered! A preschool version of this activity is also available. 2. Art Reaction Game Use the Reaction Cards as you walk through the galleries. Place your cards in front of the artwork to show one of these reactions: Love it! Took Hours to Make! Would Buy for Someone! Art Show Winner! and I have a Question! See which artworks get the most cards and then talk about why! 3. “What Do You See?” Take turns describing exactly what you see in a work of art. See how detailed you can get while using your observation skills! 4. ORQ: Thinking and Writing About Art Upper level students can complete a descriptive writing activity based on Observations, Responses and Questions. Worksheets and clipboards are available. 5. Artists Sketchbook Use our pre-made activity sheet to write and draw in the galleries. You can focus on the artwork, or draw your own ideas, based on the concept of artist’s sketches. Drawing in the Gallery is also an option.
Use these activities in matching to Content Standards in the Visual Arts, Language Arts, Humanities and more! Visit our website for the Teacher’s Guide and Language Arts Guides, which include reproducible student sheets.
