The South Haven Public Schools is seeking a visionary leader to fill its
position of superintendent of schools.

South Haven Public Schools strives to meet the needs of all students,
focusing on high expectations for student achievement. The school district is
recognized throughout the area as a leader in innovative instruction. The
continuous-progress elementary program provides age-appropriate
placement to maximize learning. The district provides a comprehensive
technology and arts program, kindergarten through grade 12.

South Haven Public Schools is located in Van Buren County in West
Michigan's four seasons recreational area. The district is home to miles of
spectacular Lake Michigan coastline. Warm hospitality and small-town charm
continues to make South Haven one of Michigan's desirable vacation
destinations. In addition, South Haven is known as the blueberry capital of
the world. Its diverse economy includes tourism, agriculture, health care,
small businesses, and light industry.
The district's student enrollment consists of 2,230 diverse students who
attend well-maintained facilities. There are two pre-k-3 elementary
buildings, one 4-5 elementary school, one 6-8 middle school and a 9-12 high
school. The district employs 270 professionals and support staff. The 2011-
2012 budget is 19.5 million. Additional information can be found on the

Application and selection procedure:
The South Haven Public Schools' Board seeks to employ an innovative leader
in education and administration. It is expected that the new superintendent
will take office in July 2012.
Applicants are to provide the Board of Education with eight (8) copies of the
following items to ensure consideration:
     A cover letter indicating the applicant's interest in this position.
     A current resume.
     A brief review of career moves.
     A brief review of key professional accomplishments as they specifically
       relate to the selection criteria.
     Copies of academic transcripts.
     Three current letters of recommendation.

   Experience as a superintendent preferred but not required.
   Extensive administrative experience with a record of exemplary
     leadership skills.
   Experience with a diverse group of students and parents.
   Proven collaborative leader who communicates and interacts clearly,
     openly, honestly and consistently with teachers, parents and
     community.
   Track record of increasing student achievement and closing
     achievement gaps.
   Vision and energy to increase district revenue and enrollment.

Salary:
The Board will offer a competitive regional compensation package based on
the experience of the successful candidate.
