In Circuit Court:

Cook County Circuit Judge James Michael Varga approved a $4.5
million settlement for a boy who suffered brain damage during birth
when doctors allegedly failed to respond to signs of fetal heart distress.

Daronte Jones-Brooks, now 7, has permanent speech, cognitive and
behavioral impairments because doctors at West Suburban Hospital
Medical Center in Oak Park did not perform an emergency Caesarean
section, argued plaintiff attorney Steven M. Levin of Levin & Perconti.
The boy suffered intrapartum asphyxia and was eventually born
vaginally after several attempts at vacuum extraction.
