CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Theme
“Beyond Piano Teaching: Discovering the Past, Serving the Future”
Objectives
1. To promote excellence in piano teaching and learning
2. To encourage mutual sharing and the exchange of ideas in piano teaching
3. To understand our role and mission as piano teachers & music practitioners in the
music fraternity
4. To discover the great pedagogues and their teaching philosophies
5. To discover insights from performing piano works by the great masters
Categories of Presentations
1. Spoken Papers
2. Piano Teachers’ Platform
Submission Guidelines for Spoken Papers
Extended abstracts OR complete papers must be submitted for consideration.
Extended abstracts:
1. Double-spaced, margins minimum of 1” on all sides, font size at least 12 points
2. Should not exceed 1,500 words, excluding any figures, drawings, tables, and
references.
3. To conform to either one of the following style manuals: Publication Manual of
the American Psychological Association (6th edition, 2009), or The Chicago
Manual of Style (15th edition, 2003).
4. To include a cover letter that states the author’s name, email address,
mobile/phone number, address, institutional affiliation (if applicable) and title of
the paper.
The cover letter must be included as the first page of the submission. Papers
must be in WORD files (.doc or .docx). Do not submit PDF files. Please
name your file in the order of surname, name then title of the paper.
The cover letter should briefly describe how the paper relates to the
Symposium theme
5. To include the following statement:

6. Please also state if you want your paper to be considered for publication in the
Symposium Programme Proceedings.
Complete paper submissions:

3. Paper should not exceed 5,000 words (excluding the abstract and any figures,
drawings, tables, and references)

Submission Guidelines for Piano Teachers’ Platform
Professional piano teachers will present and share their creative work or research
findings to solicit feedback and suggestions.
Abstract of Proposal not exceeding 250 words must be submitted for consideration.
It can be presented individually or with a co-presenter.
Abstract

mobile/phone number, address, institutional affiliation (if applicable) and title of
the presentation.

This abstract is submitted for consideration for the Piano Teachers’ Platform.
Other Submission Information
1. Proposals should support the theme and objectives of the symposium.
2. You may submit more than one proposal for either one or both categories.
3. Accepted presenters will have 30 minutes to present, followed by a 10-minute
discussion.
4. To submit a short biography of presenter & co-presenter each, not exceeding 100
words.
5. To submit a colored photograph of each presenter in jpg format saved under your
name.
6. Membership of SMTA is not required to submit a proposal.
7. Proposals should not be for commercial purpose.
8. Proposals must be received by midnight on April 3rd, 2011. Notifications shall
be made by April 30th, 2011. Early submissions are strongly encouraged. Full
Spoken Papers, if accepted, must be received by May 15th, 2011 (dates are
according to Singapore time)
9. All proposals must be emailed to enquiries@smtasingapore.com which will be
acknowledged via email upon receipt. Please email us should you not receive the
acknowledgement.
