POST TITLE:                       SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

BAND 4, SALARY SCALE:             £16,992 - £21,306 per annum

CRITERIA

Essential:
1     Higher National Diploma/Certificate or an equivalent qualification in a Computing
      related area
      and
2     at least one year’s relevant* experience

*Relevant defined as experience using dot.net, HTML and SQL Server.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POST TITLE:               SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

RESPONSIBLE TO:           Assistant Director – Client Services

REPORTING TO:             MIS Officer – Systems & Development

LOCATION:                 The postholder may be required to work at any of the College’s
                          buildings as necessary.

MAIN PURPOSE OF           The postholder will assist the MIS Officer - Systems &
THE JOB:                  Development with the development of appropriate software on
                          reporting to support the information requirements of the College.


The Postholder will:
1 help to introduce and maintain systems which can enable College users to input and
  disperse stored data in compliance with the Data Protection Act;

2 produce relevant, accurate and timely information reports to College management and
  staff on an online (Intranet) basis and on printed reports to assist in the daily operation
  of the College;

3 operate a facility to specify and produce software to satisfy non-standard requests for
  information;

4 provide advice on the possible uses and limitations of new databases or new
  procedures;

5 help to identify and recommend areas where databases or new use of IT could be used
  to benefit the dissipation of information throughout the College;

6 implement, under the guidance of the MIS Officer – Systems & Development, new
  systems as identified above;

7 help to ensure that maximum information benefits are obtained from the
  implementation and use of new systems;

8 design/develop and assist implementation of intranet reports/applications;

9 maintain and enhance existing web based applications;

10 interpret College/Section requirements based on current deficiencies of an
   electronic/manual process;

11 carry out any other duties as required by the College’s Director or persons carrying his
   delegated authority.

interview will explore issues relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
and young people.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS


Terms and conditions of employment are those as laid down by the Non-Teaching
Negotiating Committee for Further Education in Northern Ireland and will include locally
agreed terms and conditions.

Salary Scale
Scale Column Point 18, £16,992 rising by annual increments to Point 25, £21,306.

Hours of Work
The hours of work will not normally be less than 36 per week. The hours of duty which
may be on any of the College sites will be such as laid down to meet the needs of the
College and may include periods of duty after/as well as before 5.00 pm on any Monday to
Friday.
Annual Leave Entitlement
Entitlement to annual leave is 21 days in a full holiday year in addition to 12 public and
extra statutory holidays. Entitlement to leave in the first year of employment is pro-rata to
the number of months completed.

General Conditions of Appointment

Appointments are subject to:
(a)   the contracts of Employment and Redundancy Payments Act 1965 as amended
      and in particular the statutory provisions relating to termination of employment and
      the period of notice;
(b)   the provisions of the local Government Superannuation Act (NI) for the time being in
      force;
(c)   production of satisfactory evidence of health;
(d)   probationary period of six months;
(e)   sickness and maternity benefit regulations as incorporated in the Scheme for
      Sickness Allowance, details of which are available on request from the College;
(f)   the condition that no other employment is entered into during the period of
      employment by the North West Regional College and that no employment by or in
      the service of another person or body should be undertaken except with express
      approval of the Director.

CANVASSING AND REFEREES

Canvassing directly or indirectly will entail disqualification.
