Which of the Foundation’s Special Interests does your request address?
Pianos -- E.K. Sloane Piano Fund. Child abuse – Sue Cook Winfrey
Awards range from $5,000 to $75,000 to Memorial Fund supports organizations
purchase or repair pianos. providing services to abused children and
spouses with a special interest in residential
Horticultural Education – Julian Haden facilities for children. Award range from
Gary and Margaret Savage Gary Fund
$5,000 to $200,000.
provides grants to organizations that
promote horticulture education with a Cerebral Palsy and other developmental
preference for the work of the Fred Heutte disabilities—The Laura Turner Fund and
Center, Norfolk Botanical Garden and the the Jennifer Lynn Gray Fund support
Virginia Zoo. Awards range from $15,000 to persons with developmental disabilities.
$1,500. Awards range from $1,000 to $2,000.
Mental Health Research – the Benjamin Peninsula activities -- The Harry F. Wall
R. Brown and Charles G. Brown Funds Memorial Fund provides support to area
support mental health research. Awards high schools. Awards range from $10,000
range from $10,000 to $25,000. to $50,000. The Mary E. and Curtis M.
Chappell, Jr. Fund awards grants to arts
and humanities activities on the Peninsula.
Awards range from $1,000 to $1,200.

Special Interest Grants
In no more than three pages, please provide the following information:
I. Organizational Background
Briefly describe the mission, activities and history of your organization. Please include information on your
organization’s number of clients served, client demographics and any organization-level outcome measures.
II. Grant Description (Complete the applicable section for your request.)
A. For program funding requests provide an overview of the program that includes:
o The overall goals and objectives of this program
o A description of services or interventions to be offered including delivery method and staffing
o A description of the expected short-term outcomes and long-term objectives and how they will be
o A complete program implementation timeline/schedule
o Describe how the funds from the Foundation will be used and over what period of time.
B. For capital project and equipment purchases please provide an overview of the project that includes:
o A description of the project and why it is necessary
o How will the purchase change or enhance existing programs?
o A description of how funds from the Foundation will be used
o A project timeline
C. For a piano request:
o Indicate the proposed supplier of the piano and the estimated cost.
o Indicate what type of piano is being requested and why it is suited for your needs.
o Indicate whether the piano is a replacement or will be an additional piano and how it will be used.
o Describe how the piano will be used to benefit the general public. Include concert series flyers or
other supporting documents.
o Describe the planned maintenance schedule and how the piano will be stored.
o Describe any other sources of funding available or that could be relied on to assist in the purchase
of the piano
