JUDICIAL NOMINATION COMMISSION SOLICITS APPLICATIONS FOR
SUPREME COURT JUSTICE
Chief Justice Mike McGrath of the Montana Supreme Court has notified the
Judicial Nomination Commission that Justice John Warner is resigning his
position as Justice of the Montana Supreme Court, Seat No. 2 effective
December 31, 2009. After being appointed by the Governor, the new Justice will
take office in January 2010 and must stand for election in November 2010 in
order to serve for the remainder of the term, which expires December 31, 2014.
The Judicial Nomination Commission is accepting applications from any lawyer in
good standing who has the qualifications set forth by law for holding the position
of Supreme Court Justice. Applications are available from the Commission’s
webpage at http://courts.mt.gov/supreme/boards/jud_nomination/default.mcpx or
from the Commission’s secretary, Andrew P. Suenram, at
email@example.com, P.O Box 1366, Dillon, MT 59725, (406) 683-2391.
Applications are available in Word or WordPerfect and must be submitted
electronically as well as in hard copy.
The deadline for submitting applications is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15,
2009. The Commission will announce the names of the candidates thereafter.
The public is encouraged to contact Commission members regarding the
applicants during the public comment period, which will begin Monday, October
19 and close Wednesday, November 18. The Commission will forward the
names of three to five nominees to Governor Schweitzer for appointment after
reviewing all applications, investigating and interviewing the applicants, and
receiving public comment.
The Judicial Nomination Commission has seven members: District Judge Ted
Lympus of Kalispell; Shirley Ball of Nashua; Mona Charles of Kalispell; Monica
Paoli of Missoula; Martha Sheehy of Billings; Andy Suenram of Dillon; and Paul
Tuss of Havre.
