Wayne County Schools Career Center Mandatory Extra Help Any student, “regular” or “conditional,” who is failing any English or mathematics class will be required to attend 2 12/ hours of Extra Help per week until the failing grade is raised and maintained at a grade of ‘C’ or better. The 2 ½ hour requirement can be met in any combination of the following: Attending the AAA (Academic Assistance Area) during study hall Being assigned to the AAA by the career and technical teacher during lab time (maximum of 1 period per day). Attending Extra Help before school (1/2 hour available each day) Attending Extra Help after school (2 ½ hours available Monday-Thursday) Note: Transportation will be provided to each Home School one day per week, so students who do not have study hall or access to transportation can still complete the 2 1/1 hour requirement. There will be a conference held with students who do not comply to review their academic progress. Students may be removed from their career and technical program temporarily or permanently. Starting in the 2007-2008 school year, students will also be required to attend Extra Help if they are failing any science class. The AAA is open to any student. Students not failing are welcome and encouraged to use the AAA whenever needed.
