GREATWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL
EDUCATIONAL VISITS POLICY
Greatworth Primary School has adopted the Northamptonshire County
Council Policy for Educational Visits.
We will ensure that there is a trained Educational Visits Co-ordinator, who will
undertake the required training every 3 years.
The trained Educational Visits Co-ordinator for the school is the
Headteacher, Mrs Fiona Toman (DSCF approved training attended).
Greatworth Primary School recognises 3 categories of trip/visit.
1. Category A activities – these comprise activities that present no
significant risks with no need for the group leader to have accreditation.
2. Category B activities – higher risk activities which require that the
leader has undertaken familiarisation or induction specific to the visit or
3. Category C activities – higher risk activities which need approval by the
county council Outdoor Education Advisor.
Category A and B activities require a risk assessment to be approved by the
Educational Visits Co-ordinator. Group leaders will write the risk assessment
and submit to the EVC for approval before undertaken any off site visit. All
risks should be low.
Category C visits
All residentials planned by the school will seek and obtain approval of the
County Education Advisor before being undertaken. The risk assessments will
be written and submitted by the group leader, who will have undertaken a
provisional visit to the destination.
Note: Grendon Hall is a county approved venue and does not need Category
The Headteacher and governors are responsible for ensuring that risk
assessments are regularly undertaken and that county approval is sought and
approved before Category C activities are undertaken.
The EVC is responsible for approving off site visits – the Headteacher and
governors should ensure that the policy is followed.
