Activities FAQ Q: What is Student Government? How can I get involved? A: Student Government is a semester course for Students who have a passion for Oakmont High and desire to provide our student body with a fun high school experience. Students are able to improve their leadership skills by running events such as rallies, game gates, dances, and so much more! You can run for a class or ASB position at the end of the year and join the fun! Q: Who is the Student Government advisor? A: Student Government is guided by Mrs. Myles, who has been our activities director since the Fall of 2000. She is also the Varsity Girls soccer coach here at Oakmont and is the IB Extended Essay Coordinator. Be sure to thank her for all her hard work if you ever happen to catch her running around! She can be found in room M-2 before school and at lunch. Please feel free to come in and ask questions in M-2! Q: Where can I purchase spirit wear? A: Spirit wear can be purchased from the Student Store during your lunch period. Parent volunteers run the store and sell a variety of items like sweatshirts, t-shirts, yoga pants, blankets, and school supplies. Q: Where can I buy a class shirt? A: You can buy a class shirt at the start of the year off of the student store order form or at the class shirt table during lunch. You can also talk to your class president and ask if shirts are still on sale. Q: How can I start a club? A: New clubs must fill out a club constitution form (available in M-2) and all existing clubs must renew their constitution in order to be an active club. Pay attention to the bulletin in the first couple weeks of the school year for more information. New clubs are only established at the beginning of each term. Q: What is Homecoming? A: Homecoming Week consists of festivities such as our annual Homecoming Rally, float building, Homecoming dance, and fun spirit days! Homecoming is our biggest home football game of the year where at half-time we have a parade of royalty, floats and fireworks. Q: What are the Viking Expectations? A: The Viking Expectations are behaviors that we would expect to see from students at OHS. Choosing Respect, Being Responsible, Having Integrity, and Actively Engaging in school are important for the success of our students. Q: What are O-games? A: O-games is the ultimate class competition. It is a chance for classes to unite in fun activities such as a football throw, sleeping bag roll, bench press, staring contest, basketball shoot out, sit ups, arm wrestling, shuttle run, home run derby, broad jump, soccer juggle and push ups. Q: What is Odinboken? A: Odinboken is the name of our yearbook. Odin being the name of our school mascot and boken meaning book. Therefore Odinboken literally means the book of Odin. Q: What is Senior Ball? A: Senior Ball is an off campus formal dance. Dinner is included and it is traditionally held at a hotel/country club. It is a very important dance to the Senior Class and it is considered the most formal event of the year. Tickets are available in the fall and spring. The price does go up in the spring. It is a non-school event that is supported by our OPC. Q:What is OPC? A:The OPC or Oakmont Parent’s Club is a booster club made up of Oakmont parents that support all academic, athletic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at OHS. Their biggest fundraiser is the annual Crab Feed. Sign up to be a member and support OHS students! Q: Is there anything I can do as a student to make Oakmont even better? A: Get involved, get involved, get involved! Join a club and take part in a sport. Show your school spirit by wearing blue and white every Friday. Go to games, student-run activities, and dances! Q: What are dance bids and where can I find them? A: Dance bids are forms that allow students from other schools to be able to attend an Oakmont High School dance. You can pick up a form in Student Services in the office.
