Dear Gorman Fort Banks School Families:

Section 59C of the Education Reform Active of 1993 states that:
        “At each public elementary, secondary and independent vocational school in the Commonwealth
there shall be a school council consisting of the school principal, who shall co-chair the council; parents
of the students attending such school will be chosen in elections held by the local recognized parent-
teacher organization under the direction of the principal; teachers who shall be selected by the teachers in
such school; other persons, not parents or teachers of students in the school…The school council shall
meet regularly with the principal of the school and shall assist in the identification of the educational
needs of the students attending the school, in review of the annual school budget and in the formulation of
a school improvement plan.”

In accordance with this regulation, the Gorman Fort Banks Elementary School will have a council
consisting of 3 parents, 2 teachers, a community representative and myself as principal. Because we have
two parents who will finish ourt their two year term this year, at this time the Gorman Fort Banks School
is seeking the nominations of individuals to serve the following terms:
        1 parent to serve a one year term (2012-2013)
        1 community representative to serve one year term (2012-2013)
The candidates should be available to attend monthly meetings just after school is dismissed that would
last approximately one hour.

If you are interested in having your name placed on our ballot, please contact Mrs. Gavin in our school
office by noon on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. The names of interested parent representative(s) will
appear on our school website after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012. If warranted, ballots will be
sent home through “back pack express” for voting purposes. The results of the election will be posted on
the school website no later than Friday, October 5, 2012.

I appreciate the involvement of our families and look forward to working with the School Site Council
with an eye towards continuous improvement of the Gorman Fort Banks School.
