Section 1: Job description
Context
The Corporate Services Directorate from September 2009 will comprise of
Communications, Human Resources, and Information Services, Legal Services and
Governance; and Organisational and Professional Development.
Health and Safety is located within Human Resources Division, which provides an
integrated and cost effective national service. Human Resources consists of the following
functions:
• HR Strategy
• HR Operations
• HR Business Partnering
• Health and Safety
Overall purpose
The role will assist the Head of Health and Safety with development of strategic
direction and driving implementation through the provision of health and safety
advice and support across the organisation to create a safe and healthy
workplace. The postholder will work closely with regional health and safety
contacts and be responsible for delivering central health and safety functions.
Key accountabilities:
Encourage, support and mentor H&S officers in the regions.
Line management of the Health & Safety Administrator.
Provide health and safety advice across the organisation.
Develop and implement Health & Safety policies on new initiatives.
Develop and maintain health and safety sections of the intranet and other
sources of guidance.
Investigate and follow through on accident and incident investigations.
Produce reports on health and safety performance for senior management
and the health and safety committee.
Identify and respond to organizational health and safety needs as they
arise.
Undertake and manage a range of projects as they arise.
Build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

Section 3: Terms and conditions
This is a permanent, full-time (36 hours a week excluding lunch breaks)
pensionable post based at our London office, with some national travel required.
Whilst this post is currently based at our London office future changes will
require the flexibility to be based at alternative locations which may not include
London.
The grade for the post is B1 APT and the salary will be £37,671 as from 1 August
2009.
Other key elements of our reward package are:
32.5 days annual leave plus eight day’s public holiday

Short listing

The most suitable candidates will be invited to attend an interview and
assessment, which is most likely to be held on 16 September 2009.
The work based assessment, and interview will explore how you meet the
