                Objectives

• Deduce a reactivity series based upon
  chemical behavior of the elements.
• Identify which element is oxidized and
  which is reduced in the given reactions.
• Use a web site to simulate replacement
  reactions to compare between the activity
  of different elements
    Introduction

• Reactivity of metals: Some metals are very reactive but
  some hardly react at all. Potassium is so reactive that you can't even
   leave it out in the air.. However gold doesn't react with anything it meets
   in everyday life, which is why it is so good for jewellery. We can put all
   known metals into a special order with the most reactive metals at the
   top and the least reactive metals right down at the bottom. This list is
   called the reactivity series.
Tasks:

• Divide the students into 5 groups. (4 students)
• Task-1(15 min )
• supply each group by a piece of Mg ,Cu, dill HCl.ZnSO4
  solution test tubes (safety Goggels) . Using the test
  tubes carry out the following reactions.
• 1- Mg +HCl (5mL)            2- Cu + HCl (5mL)
• 3- Mg + ZnSO4 (aq)          4- Cu + ZnSO4 (aq)
• in your notebook, write your observations.
• Teacher check each group .
• Which metal is more reactive? Arrange them in order of
  reactivity.
• Task – 2 (15 min)
• Group 1 and 2 search : Deduce a reactivity series based upon
  chemical behavior of the elements. Use the website
