                                                First Grade

Reading
Grade Level Expectation: First grade students will score a 1.5 on the PALS assessment by the end of the
school year.

How can parents help?
    Read with your student for 20 minutes daily
    Participate in our Parent Book Camp where we share strategies for young readers
    Participate in our Round-Up Fundraiser where proceeds will go toward the purchase of new
        leveled literacy materials
    Volunteer to read with a student who would benefit from additional time spent on reading

Writing
Grade Level Expectation: Students will score a 10 or higher on the district writing rubric at the end of
the year. There will be a focus on word choice and conventions throughout the year.

How can parents help?
    Review the exemplar paper given to you by your child’s teacher and refer to it as you
        compare your child’s writing throughout the year to what is expected by the end of the year.
    Encourage your student to keep a journal at home
    When you come to volunteer, help publish students’ writing pieces so all students are able to
        see the culmination of the writing process.

Math
Grade Level Expectation: Students will score a 78% or higher on the district math assessment
administered at the end of the school year.

How can parents help?
    Help students participate in their family math homework.
    Check out or purchase a game kit from our school to help with the math games as
        reinforcement of learning.
