Ranger 2.5.30 & CAPI 8.8 - Feature Enablement
This version of Ranger & CAPI provide the following features:
1. Compatibility setting for Source Capture pre 2.4.4 and pre 2.5.1.4 code bases.
2. Single Feed mode when Double Feed Detection is disabled in Source Capture
3. Selective Messaging from CAPI for Ink related messages.
4. Application independent Franking.
Verify the following files are in the install directory prior to installing the drivers
1. RangerForSmartSource_PVA_v2.5.30.0-8.8.0.exe
2. Setup.dat
3. TransportInfo.override.ini
Here is base detail for enabling of each of the new features:
1. Ranger compatibility setting for Source Capture current code levels as well as 2.4.4.xx;
pre 2.5.1.4; and 2.1.x code levels.
a. Install the TransportInfo.override.ini file to the same location as the
RangerForSmartSource_PVA_v2.5.30.0-8.8.0.exe
b. What changed in the file

NOTE: When the Ranger installation script detects the
TransportInfo.override.ini file in the same directory as the installation exe then
Ranger will install the ini file in the proper directory.
Don’t forget to put the setup.dat (Ranger license file) in the same directory as
the installation exe before you run the install.
2. Single Feed mode when Double Feed Detection is disabled in Source Capture
a. Modify the CapiOptions.ini file on the client workstation, adding the following
parameter.
1. Located in c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Silver
Bullet Technology\Ranger\SmartSource PVA\API Files
2. Optionally Use Supplied Sample
[Fiserv DoubleDoc Mode]
Enable=true
MessageLine1=WARNING: Feeding was requested when double-document
detection is disabled.

MessageLine2=A single document will be fed. To feed multiple items, enable the
double-document detection check-box before feeding the next item.
NOTE: When this option is enabled, turning off double-doc detection on Source
Capture scan page will put the scanner into SINGLE FEED mode, until double-doc
detection is re-enabled on Source Capture scan page.
Ranger will display a user defined message along with an “OK” button.
The default messages are:
Line 1: “WARNING: Feeding was requested when double-document detection is
disabled.”
Line 2: “A single document will be fed. To feed multiple items, enable the
double-document detection check-box before feeding the next item.”
When the user selects the “OK” button, Ranger feeds a single item and then stop
feeding automatically.
3. Selective Messaging from CAPI for Ink related messages.
a. Modify the SmartSourceManager.ini file on the client workstation
1. Located in C:\SmartSource\Config
2. Optionally Use Supplied Sample

EnableExceptionHandler=1
1 enables the handler, 0 turns it off
b. Modify the errors.mdb file on the client workstation
1. Located in C:\SmartSource\bin
2. Optionally Use Supplied Sample
Include only the messages you want to be displayed to end users.
Supplied Sample is limited to only ink related messages.

In addition, this version of CAPI contains the following feature:
4. Franker Enablement independent of Source Capture application.
a. Modify the device.ini file on the client workstation
1. Located in C:\SmartSource\bin
2. Use Supplied Sample
[Franker]
# The PresetFrank parameter determines whether franking decisions are
controlled by the application, or whether every item will be franked.
# 0 = Franking operation under application control (default)
# 1 = Every document (except pages, i.e., documents longer than 9.5 inches
on Adaptive) will be franked.
PresetFrank=0
NOTE: Requires the SmartSource scanner has a physical franker.
Control of this franker “always on” or “always off” feature is outside the
control of Source Capture application.
Source Capture does not require Franking.
