This spreadsheet will allow you to calculate all required parameters to make sure that you can use a JVC D-ILA
projector with your chosen screen size and/or throw distance.

Before installation, you will generally know the screen size, the throw distance, or both. This spreadsheet will
calculate any of the unknown parameters or, if all of the parameters are known, it will let you check that they are
within the projector’s operational range.

If You Know The Screen Size
If you know the screen size, enter it into the appropriate yellow box - “Screen Diagonal”, “Screen Width” or
“Screen Height”, depending on which one you know. If you know more than one, any one of them will do. Press
Enter, and the spreadsheet will calculate all of the other parameters. These are:

Min Throw – This is the minimum throw distance from the front of the projector’s lens to the screen for the given
screen size.
Max Throw – This is the maximum throw distance from the front of the projector’s lens to the screen for the given
screen size.
For best performance and maximum flexibility, we suggest you select a throw distance somewhere near the
middle of the minimum and maximum throw distances where possible.
Max Vert Shift – This is the maximum distance that the projector can be mounted above or below the centre of
the screen for the given screen size.
Max Hor Shift – This is the maximum distance that the projector can be mounted to the left or right of the centre
of the screen for the given screen size.
Above/Below Scn – This is the maximum distance that the projector can be mounted above the top edge of the
screen or below the bottom edge of the screen for the given screen size.

If You Know The Throw Distance
Enter the throw distance in the yellow “Throw” box and press Enter. The spreadsheet will calculate the minimum
and maximum diagonal screen size for the given throw distance. The screen can be anywhere between the sizes
given, though for best performance, we suggest that you select a screen size somewhere near the middle of the
calculated range. The answer is given in both millimetres and inches as many screens are still sold in inches.

Aspect Ratio
The Calculator Tab includes two calculators, one for 16:9 aspect ratio and one for the 2.35:1 Zoom aspect ratio
that is available on the DLA-X30, DLAX70R, DLA-X90R, DLA-RS45, DLA-RS55 and DLA-RS65. Please make
sure that you use the correct calculator. If you are planning to use both aspect ratios, please check your proposed
screen size/throw combination in both calculators. Although the theoretical vertical shift is slightly larger with
2.35:1 projection (due to the difference in image height), we have used the same shift calculations as used for
16:9 projection as it is very likey that any projector used for 2.35:1 projection will also be used for 16:9 projection.
This avoids installations that may work OK at 2.35:1 but may not have enough available shift at 16:9

Individual projectors may be subject to a ± 5% tolerance on the figures shown. If your proposed screen size/throw
combination is very close to the edge of the available range, we suggest that you try a projector in situ before
purchasing if possible.
The maximum recommended screen size for all models is 200" (5080mm). If this is exceeded, the "Screen
Diagonal" size will change to red in the Screen Parameters Calculator. It is possible to use a screen larger than
200” (subject to sufficient throw distance), but the light output will probably not be sufficient for normal viewing.
The maximum recommended throw distance for all models is 12.3m. If this is exceeded, the "Throw" size will
change to red in the Throw Calculator. It is possible to use a throw distance longer than larger than 12.3m
(subject to screen size limitations), but the light output will probably not be sufficient for normal viewing.
The maximum amounts of Vertical and Horizontal shift are interdependent. When using both horizontal and
vertical shift at the same time, please check that they are within the range shown on the "Lens Shift Correlation
Chart" tab. This is especially important when using large amounts of shift. Please note that the Lens Shift
Correlation Chart is for a 16:9 aspect ratio.
