Job Summary/Main Aims of the Post

    To provide clinical leadership to the inpatient areas and to the Day Hospital,
     to be responsible for the day-to-day management of theses areas.

    To ensure that the highest possible quality of service is delivered to patients,
     users and carers.

    To work in partnership with other care providers, statutory and non-statutory,
     to work towards the delivering of an integrated mental health service.

    To maintain strategic awareness of the national agenda for health and ensure
     that staff delivers care within this context.

    To lead and project manage service developments as required.

Key Performance Areas

      Leadership/Management (50%)

       To provide guidance, support and effective clinical leadership for ward
        managers and take responsibility for standards of clinical practice, with
        the ultimate goal of creating an environment whereby excellence in clinical
        care will flourish.

       To manage staff groups across several sites and manage the recruitment,
        selection and retention of staff.

       To ensure the principles of clinical governance are practised and
        demonstrated on a daily basis being reflected through the quarterly
        reports and action plans. The post holder will also be responsible for
        ensuring ownership of clinical governance at all levels of clinical staff on
        the site.

       To promote and maintain clinical practice in line with Trust policies and
        procedures.

       To represent the service at forums both within and external to the Trust.

       To promote and provide evidence of close working with service users and
        their carers.

       To investigate complaints, grievances, performance problems, developing
        action plans and making recommendations as required.

       To act up in the absence of the Assistant Director.

       To provide out of hours cover by rotation on the senior managers on call
        rota.

       Monitoring of service area budgets, reporting variations and changes to
        the Assistant Director.

       Responsible signatory for financial resources within service area.

     Clinical/Professional (30%)

      To actively participate in the development of policies and procedures.

      To ensure best practice is shared by facilitating and progressing clinical
       practise benchmarking within the area.

      To encourage service user involvement is implemented at all levels and
       that they contribute to monitoring and evaluating service planning and
       delivery.

      To maintain high standards of record keeping, patient assessment, care
       planning, risk assessment and care programming are delivered.

      To supervise and support ward staff in audit and quality improvement
       programmes.

      To ensure that clinical practice is evidence based.

      To promote and provide an ongoing staff development programme in
       close collaboration with the Education and Training Department.

      To keep their own knowledge base up to date.

      To maintain their professional registration.

      To maintain and adhere to Health and Safety Standards as per Trust
       policy.

     Education/Development (20%)

      To ensure that all staff receive professional, clinical and managerial
       supervision in accordance with the Trust policy.

      To enable all staff receive their PDR facilitating relevant and identified
       training to maintain competence.

      To maintain accurate and up to date records are kept of all staff training,
       mandatory and other, including registration where appropriate.

      To ensure that all new staff complete induction training and mandatory
       training as required.

      To ensure that all students/trainees working within the area receive
       appropriate supervision.

      To participate in the PDR process themselves.

      Actively participate in the delivery of training and education.

      Represent the service by participating in presentations at forums both
       internal and external to the Trust as requested.

      To participate in and lead research and audit as required

                     Mental Health Service.

                     provision of effective, evidence based clinical practice.
