Corporate Involvement with
The Water of Leith Conservation Trust
Corporate involvement along the Water of Leith river offers your team a
chance to develop through interesting outdoor experience and fun packed
activities while investing in the community and conserving Edinburgh’s most
significant wildlife corridor.
The Water of Leith Conservation Trust
The Water of Leith Conservation Trust’s mission is “to conserve and enhance the Water of Leith
as a haven for wildlife and an educational and recreational resource for all”.
The first river charity to be established in Scotland, as guardians of the Water of Leith we work
to raise the profile of this key environmental asset, and promote community action to help the
river. Regular volunteer clean-ups and habitat creation projects improve the health of the river
valley. Our interactive Visitor Centre, the Water of Leith Walkway, and extensive events,
education and group visits programmes means everyone has the opportunity to discover more
about Edinburgh’s hidden natural asset. www.waterofleith.org.uk
Wildife along Water of Leith River
The river is a haven for wildife. It is designated as an Urban Wildife Site.
It is home to hundereds of different types wild flowers, tree and aquatic
plants including protected species such as Scottish Hyacinth. The river
has over 14 different species of fish and is a Brown Trout fishery.
Herons, Dippers and Kingfishers are sighted all over the river on a daily

What does a Conservation Task Involve for your employees ?
We use teams of volunteers from your business to help deliver environmental improvement
projects in the Water of Leith Valley . Generally we go to a strech of river in need of
improvement and work as a team to benefit the wildife and the people in that area. Your team
may be based anywhere along the 12 miles of river that passes through the city. This could be
very close to the Centre of town or the location of your business. Wherever they are working
you can be assured that your employees will be engaged in completing tasks they will enjoy
while helping their local environment. We offer a range of activities that will suit all levels of
fitness and abilities. Tasks may include;
Invasive species removal
Removing log jams
Native wildflower planting
Creating education areas
Habitat creation projects

Conservation work can provide a great backdrop to staff training and development. This in turn
