Application Form : Senior Student Leader
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Senior Student Leader in our new academy. By
picking up this application form you have made the first step towards having a real say in
how Oasis Academy Oldham develops in its first year. Please read the following notes
carefully to make sure that you cover everything you would like to say in your application.
Being a Senior Student Leader will also be something you can write on your Personal
Statement when you apply for college courses and something to talk about in interviews.
General Advice: make your form the best it can be
You can either complete your form by hand or use an electronic version
Whether you write by hand or type it, get somebody to check it for you – a
parent or carer, your form tutor, the member of staff you have asked to
support your application in Question 5, your Learning Community Leader, the
Connexions Team
Try to write in accurate Standard English – sentences with punctuation or if
you use some bullet points set them out clearly
It’s not an English test, but if you struggle with sentences and spelling, ask for
help with getting your thoughts down on paper
Complete all sections as fully as you can and don’t leave any boxes empty
Be honest – tell the truth and don’t say you have done things you haven’t
Question 1: Why do you want to be a member of the Academy Student Leadership Team?
Write about what you are like as a person that would make you a good leader
Tell us about what you will be like as leader and why others will want to work
with you
If you haven’t been a leader before, say why you are interested now
Say something about the leadership position you have applied for – explain
why you would be a good leader in your chosen area
Question 2: What have you done previously in school or out of school that gives you some
experience of helping or leading others?
Write here about any clubs you have been in or any times that you have been
part of a team, e.g. sports, school production, enrichment activities
Write also about when you take responsibility out of school – caring for
family members or people in your local community
Write about any fund raising activities you have been involved in – in and out
of school
Question 3: What do you feel you learned from it? How would you like to build on it as a
member of the Student Leadership Team?
Think here about what you have done and how this has changed you as a
person
Think about how your experiences in lower school – things you got right or
wrong – have changed the way you deal with other people
Think about how these experiences can be used to guide and influence
others
Question 4: If you could lead one project in our new Academy, what would it be and why?
There are no right or wrong answers – talk about something that is either
important to you or tell us about an exciting new idea that you would like to
be involved in
There will be lots of exciting new things happening in the first year of your
Academy – think about ONE thing that we could do to make it even better
than it is now
You can tell us about anything you would like to do – in the Academy or in
the community, in the world of Business and Enterprise, sporting, science,
arts projects………. ANYTHING that you want to develop
Question 5: Please name below a member of the Academy staff who has agreed to support
your application.
Make sure you ask the member of staff you have chosen if they will support
you before you write down their name
You can ask any member of staff from the Academy – teachers, support and
office staff, technicians
You might want to choose somebody who knows you well or somebody who
works in the area where you would like to be a leader
What will happen to my completed application form? When will I hear something?
We will write to everybody who completes an application form telling them
what will happen next
You will have a meeting about your application form with a member of the
Academy Leadership Team and a member of staff who works in the area
that interests you
All applicants will get feedback about their application form so that they will
learn which sections they answered best and how they can improve the
next application form they write
