New Kent Girls Softball League
Board Member’s Code of Conduct
The New Kent Girls Softball League provides an environment for girls to participate in
the sport of softball with an opportunity to develop life skills through team play,
sportsmanship, competition, and practice. An emphasis on fair play and respect for all
participants is a primary element of our League’s mission. To better achieve that mission
we provide the following Codes of Conduct for all Board Members.
These Codes of Conduct can be summarized in the following three principles: (1)
Demonstrating a positive attitude. (2) Setting a good example. (3) Maintaining good
relationships with all softball participants - including officials, opponents, and our own
teams’ players, parents, and coaches.
The NKGSL will not tolerate behavior, which brings the League, teams or game into
NKGSL Board Members are expected to show a positive, respectful attitude for everyone
involved in the sport. Criticism and disrespect for officials, opponents, coaches or
fans undermine the purpose of the sport and encourage behavior contrary to the spirit
of the game and the mission of the NKGSL.
NKGSL Board Members are accountable for his/her behavior at all times on or off the
field of play. Board Members represent the NKGSL and are expected to set a good
example for participants involved in the NKGSL.
The NKGSL will not tolerate conduct that is detrimental to the sport, the participants, or
the community. Such conduct includes: Vulgarity by Board Members; harassment or
belittling of officials, coaches, players or fans; verbal abuse, threats or physical
violence toward anyone before, during or after a game; and the taunting of opposing
players, coaches or parents. We require thorough self-restraint by all participants.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to support programs that train and educate players,
coaches, parents, officials and volunteers.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to promote and publicize the League’s programs;
and seek out financial support when possible.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to make themselves available to answer any
questions from parents.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to work to provide fairness to the participants and
promote fair play and sportsmanship.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to recruit volunteers, including coaches, who
demonstrate qualities conducive to being role models to the youth in our sport.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to encourage coaches, parents and players to attend
NKGSL clinics, open gyms and other special events or programs.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to make every possible attempt to provide all
participants with a safe and enjoyable environment in which to play.
NKGSL Board Members are expected to read and be familiar with the contents of the
NKGSL BY Laws

NKGSL Board Members are expected to help develop other administrators to advance to
positions within the Board.
I hereby pledge to live up to my responsibility as a Board Member in the New Kent Girls
Softball League (NKGSL) by following the Board Member’s Code of Conduct
I have read the above, understand and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. I
understand that any violation of these Codes of Conduct could result in consequences
determined by the NKGSL Board that could result in my eligibility to continue as a Board
Member with the New Kent Girls Softball League (NKGSL).
