Lifeworth Wild-Fire Retreat:
Breathing new spirit into
CSR
Saturday 4th – Wednesday
8th September, 2004
5 days residential -
Snowdonia
£600 corporate
£400 individual
This 4 day retreat is like nothing that’s gone before. It will leave you more energised
and more supported, where ever you’re going in the CSR world. Set in a beautiful
17th century sea-facing mountain farmhouse, we combine morning meditations and
evening relaxation with focused agenda setting workshops, creativity sessions and 1-
2-1 life-coaching. You’ll take away new skills, new insights and new contacts, gaining
returns in your professional development, and sense of health and inspiration.
What is the issue and why do we need to gather?
‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ as its currently practiced is a decade old. It’s made
changes, created shifts, and tampered with the margins of what business can do.
But many today are calling for the “death of CSR”, perceiving a failure to have made
a real impact on the big issues in sustainable development and the way business is
done. Yet a sea change still exists. Together we can piece together the elements, lift
our spirits, and create a clearer sense of our personal and professional visions about
what CSR should have been and can be in future This retreat is about stepping into a
new world of possibility, refocusing our passions, piecing together the elements of
the next agenda and ultimately creating a new wave in the way markets and
corporations behave. To do this we believe it’s necessary to take people out of their
normal reality and create an event which lifts people into a place of intuition, intimacy,
inspiration and innovation. The venue, its hosts and the design will do that for us.
Who should come?
We are seeking 8 creative individual and organisational pioneers from the world of
CSR or related fields of social enterprise, sustainable development and
organisational change. You’ve probably ‘achieved’ a lot; you’re a bit of a high flyer, in
your slightly off-centre way. You have ideas, insights and experience, but you’re in
need revitalising, re-invigorating and are always looking for a new sense of
community.
You yearn for a big, creative space to gather your thoughts and sense of
possibility, and re-kindle your faith in where you and CSR should be going
next;
You want good company to find your co-conspirators, and develop
conversations that come from new connections and trust;
You want to learn new tools and try new processes that you can use in your
professional and personal life;
Where does it take place?
The course will take inspiration from its location in the Snowdonia National Park in
North Wales (see view above). The heart of this event includes time in a stunning
natural setting, with gentle views to wooded gorges and the sea, and door-step
access to wild mountains, lakes and stone-circles. Facilities include:
17th century cottage and farmhouse with 9 bedrooms and Inglenook fireplace;
Mongolian round yurt where many of the discussion take place, and meals
are sometimes served;
Natural sauna and waterfall plunge pool;
Outdoor cinema and library;
Beaches, bikes and kayaks for free-time.
What are the core elements?
Each day is structured around intermittent work and play. We move from left brain to
right brain to no brain activities to ensure we don’t lose sight of where we’re going.
Early morning dynamic meditations on a plateau overlooking the sea clear the mind
for the day. Morning work sessions begin with a stimulating presentation followed by
group facilitated discussion and work-groups. The afternoon is free-time for 1-2-1 life
coaching sessions and explorations of the beaches, waterfalls and mountains. Pre-
dinner sessions are short, low key, work-related sessions with a drink and the sunset.
After dinner we unwind in a meaningful way with cinema, art, visualisation and fire-
light.

Who’s behind the course?
This 4-day retreat is a joint project between Lifeworth and Wild-Fire but at heart its an
independent event without allegiance to any organisation. Run at cost, in a spirit of
experimentation, participation and co-creation, it builds on founding beliefs that love
for work and love for life are part of the same goal. Detailed information on those
organising the event can be found here.
