Environmental & Water Engineers Sought for Peace Corps Mexico

Make history as one of the first Peace Corps Volunteers in Mexico! Skilled environmental and water resource engineers are sought
for a new program scheduled to begin in September.

A new partnership was created with Peace Corps and Mexico’s National Council on Science and Technology (CONACYT). Up to
a dozen experienced and highly trained engineers are sought to work at CONACYT environmental departments in central

Use your technical expertise and work with Mexican counterparts in lab research, field analysis of existing water technology and
of environmental risks, and outreach training. Provide environmental and water technology services to Mexican organizations,
local municipalities, and small businesses.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mexico your duties may involve:
     Designing more efficient and environmentally responsible water and sanitation systems for rural communities
     Assisting in the reparation, rehabilitation, and management of existing water systems
     Training communities in water treatment education and environmental awareness
     Training professionals in safe environmental practices, facilities operation and maintenance, and sustainable development
     Studying the impact of industrial processes on the ecosystems and the communities
     Developing environmental technical standards
     Studying surface waters, sediments in rivers and contaminated sites

Application process
Candidates must complete a traditional Peace Corps application, including letters of reference, interview, and medical and legal
review. Additional interviews with senior Peace Corps staff will also be required. If we are not able to offer you a place in Peace
Corps/Mexico you will be considered for other assignments.

Peace Corps assignments are 27 months during which time all living expenses are covered. Benefits include: round trip
transportation, medical and dental care, a monthly stipend in the local currency, 48 vacation days, and a $6,075 readjustment
allowance upon successful completion of service.

Job Requirements
Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental or Sanitary Engineering or Civil Engineering
with an environmental emphasis. Candidates can also qualify with a certification in water/waste water treatment plant operation or
hazardous materials management. All applicants should have related work experience. US citizenship is required to be eligible for
Peace Corps assignments.
