SUBJECT Asbestos Containing Materials Sampling Event – Wapato High School Gymnasium
Asphaltic Sheeting
On Friday, March 16, 2012, Fulcrum Environmental Consulting, Inc. (Fulcrum) collected three
samples of the asphaltic sheeting underlying the wood floor in the Wapato High School
Gymnasium. The purpose of the sampling event was to identify whether or not the sheeting is an
asbestos containing material (ACM). Access to the layer was not previously completed as
flooring removal was not planned. However, the District is currently evaluating if flooring
replacements is feasible.
Katrina Anderson (#112174), an Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)
accredited Building Inspector with Fulcrum, collected three samples of the material. Samples
were collected from flooring penetrations created during the repair of a steam leak in the
underlying tunnel system.
Samples were shipped by common carrier under chain of custody to Seattle Asbestos Test, LLC
in Lynnwood, Washington a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP)
certified laboratory (#200768-0). The samples were analyzed using Polarized Light Microscopy
(PLM) method EPA 600/R-93/116.
Laboratory analysis identified no ACM associated with the asphaltic sheeting underlying the
wood floor in the Wapato High School Gymnasium. Complete analytical results are attached.
This Memorandum should serve as an appendix to the Hazardous Building Materials Inspection
Report, Wapato High School, dated October 18, 2011, and authored by Fulcrum. This
Memorandum should also be maintained in the AHERA Management Plan for Wapato High
School.
