Most business owners are familiar with the concept of a business plan – and some of you Jared Rice
may actually have one. And a few of you may actually review and update your plan. But ~ The PLAYERS Championship
how often do you evaluate your business model? Can you paint a picture that describes the ~280-3409
rationale of how your business creates, delivers and captures value? It’s often helpful to
step away from the linear thinking of a business plan and create a picture that captures
how your business model looks now, and how it must evolve. New business models are
challenging the old way of doing business. Can you “reinvent” your business model to re-
main innovative and be among the dominant players?
There are nine building blocks that make up the business model canvas. The process starts with defining your target market
and how you deliver value to these customer segments. The focus is on how you generate revenue. Then the canvas ad-
dresses what you need to have or do in order to meet the needs of your customers. From key resources to critical activities,
this impacts your cost structure, and your bottom line.
To learn more about how the business model canvas process works to help your business grow, join Cathy
Hagan, Area Director of the Small Business Development Center at UNF, for the Chamber Coach session on
Wednesday, October 31st. You will leave with a picture of your business model… and a new approach to
 business planning.

All of life's biggest decisions come with contracts. The bigger the decision, the longer the contract.
With Amendment 4 this year, you can put a contract in place with Florida's politicians that will get more
money back into the pockets of the real job creators; Florida's homeowners and small businesses. Now
there is a contract that says you know how to spend your money better than bureaucrats do.
Amendment 4 is not your typical constitutional initiative that makes unsupported promises while using
vague language. Amendment 4 is as specific as it gets, with 664 words to say exactly what it will accom-
plish. And according to figures recently released by Florida TaxWatch, Amendment 4 will add over $6.4
billion to Florida's economy and create almost 20,000 jobs over ten years. That's over $9.6 million back
in the economy per word!

But don't let a few paragraphs scare you. Amendment 4 does only three simple things:
• Creates an additional homestead exemption for first time homebuyers
• Reduces the yearly cap on non homestead property valuation increases from a burdensome 10 percent
to a more reasonable 5 percent.
• Protects homeowners from increased assessments if their home value declines

But don't take our word for it. Visit www.FloridaChamber.com and read the full amendment.
All Floridians deserve to know about the contract with Florida's politicians that will put more money
back into the pockets of working families and small businesses -- Amendment 4.
