                 REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING
                            February 19, 2007

       The Bloom Township High School District 206 Board of Education met in regular session
on Monday, February 19, 2007 in the boardroom of the Administration Center. Ms. Goncher called
the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Roll Call

        Board members present were Ms. Goncher, Mr. Maros, Mrs. Donahue, Ms. Burbage, Mr.
Nardoni, and Mr. Rossi. Mr. Ingram was absent. Administrators present were Mr. Giannetti, Dr.
Manning, Mr. Sheahan, Mr. Krueger, Dr. Navarre, Mr. Ray, and Mr. Bolden. Also present were
members of the staff, students, and community, Mr. Hauser (school attorney), and a representative
of the press.

Minutes

       Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage seconded approving the minutes of the regular meeting
of January 8, 2007. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

Bills

      Mr. Nardoni moved and Mr. Maros seconded approving the bills dated January 16, 2007 for
payment. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       Ms. Burbage moved and Mrs. Donahue seconded approving the bills dated February 6, 2007
for payment. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       Mr. Maros moved and Ms. Burbage seconded approving the Revolving Account bills dated
January 31, 2007 payment. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried
6-0.

Recognition of Outstanding Students

      The board recognized outstanding students Carlos Andrade and Mayrem Morales from
Bloom and April Moore and Tia Wilson from Bloom Trail.

Public Participation

       Sandra Carvajal, Bloom student board rep, gave highlights of the following activities at
Bloom High School: Boys Track, ROTC Military Ball, ROTC Drill meet in Wheeling, Band SICA
Conference, Mathletes – 1st Place at SICA for the second year, Bridge Building Competition, Turn-
a-bout Dance, and the March NHS Induction Ceremony.

       Nicole Dempsey, Bloom Trail student board rep, gave highlights of the following activities
at Bloom Trail High School: Open House – February 21 at 7:00 p.m., BPA Competition – March 1-
3 at Oak Brook, and distributed copies of the Lone Doughnut to the board and administrators.

       Steven Had informed the board that the Bloom Mathletes team won the SICA Division 2
Conference meet. The Bloom Chess team won the 2006-07 SICA Conference tournament with a
record of 8-2. Mr. Had introduced several students on the chess team and the 1st Place trophy was
displayed.

Board Committees
       There were not Board Committee reports at this time.

Superintendent’s Report

       Personnel

       A)     Resignations for Retirement - Faculty

                1)      Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of
resignation for retirement from Rosemary Bossert, ELL/Spanish teacher at Bloom High School,
effective at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage seconded.
Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

               2)      Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of
resignation for retirement from Francie Lopez-McMillan, Foreign Language teacher at Bloom Trail
High School, effective at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage
seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

                3)     Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of
resignation for retirement from Lena Anastasia, Attendance Dean at Bloom High School, effective
at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage seconded. Upon roll
call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

               4)      Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of
resignation for retirement from Thomas Holt, Physical Education teacher at Bloom Trail High
School, effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage
seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

               5)      Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of
resignation for retirement from Janet Thomas, Family & Consumer Science teacher at Bloom Trail
High School, effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage
seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

                6)      Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of
resignation for retirement from Ruben J. Trevino, Jr., Math teacher at Bloom Trail High School,
effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage seconded.
Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       B)     Contract Adjustments - Faculty

        Mr. Giannetti recommended contract adjustments be approved for the following personnel
for the second semester of the 2006-07 school year on the basis of transcripts received which verify
the credit:

                      2)     Carrie Black                  B+15, Step 4
                      3)     Stephanie Cundari             B+15, Step 1
                      4)     Kevin Gilboe                  M+30, Step 4
                      5)     Arnold Glass                  B+15, Step 7

                      7)     Sandra Stellfox               M+45, Step 11

Mr. Rossi moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present voted
“Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       C)     Resignation for Retirement – Clerical

       Mr. Giannetti recommended that the board accept with regret the letter of resignation for
retirement from Carolyn Gann, Communications/Foreign Language secretary at Bloom Trail High
School, effective June 30, 2007. Mr. Rossi moved and Mr. Maros seconded. Upon roll call, all
board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       D)     Appointment - Clerical

        Mr. Giannetti recommended that Maureen Lopez, secretary to the Assistant Principal at
Bloom High School, be appointed to fill the secretarial vacancy in the Principal’s office at Bloom
High School effective July 1, 2007. Mr. Maros moved and Ms. Burbage seconded. Upon roll call,
all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       E)     Appointment – Security

         Mr. Giannetti recommended that Stephanie Smith be employed to fill the security position at
Bloom High School effective January 8, 2007. Mr. Rossi moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded. Upon
roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       F)     Appointments – Food Service

                1)      Mr. Giannetti recommended that Paula Jerauld be appointed to fill the Bloom
Snack Room position effective January 17, 2007. Mr. Rossi moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded.
Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

              2)     Mr. Giannetti recommended that Tabitha Zuziak be appointed to fill the
position of Bloom Sever Line 4 effective January 25, 2007. Mr. Rossi moved and Mr. Nardoni
seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

Old Business

       A)      Consider the Southland Sports Expo Tax Abatement

       After brief discussion, Mr. recommended that the Southland Sports Expo Tax Abatement be
tabled. Mr. Maros moved and Ms. Burbage seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present
voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

New Business

       A)      Diplomas

      Mr. Giannetti concurred in the recommendations of Dr. Navarre and Mr. Ray that diplomas
be awarded to the following students who completed graduation requirements through Operation
25:

               Bloom High School                 Bloom Trail High School
               Cecil Conner                      Heverry Agee
               Mario Jones                       Jimmy Davis
               Edgar Urquizo

Mr. Maros moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded. Upon roll call, all board members present voted
“Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       B)      Bloom Track Resurface Bids

       After a brief overview by Mr. Sheahan, Mr. Nardoni moved and Mr. Maros seconded
awarding the Bloom Track Resurface Bid to Midwest Track Builders. Upon roll call, all board
members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

Closed Session

       At 6:51 p.m., Mr. Rossi moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded that the board go into closed
session to discuss the following: Student Discipline, Personnel, and Closed Session Minutes of
January 8, 2007. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

Return to Open Session

       At 9:05 p.m., Ms. Burbage moved and Mr. Maros seconded that the board return to open
session. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       Mr. Rossi moved and Ms. Burbage seconded approving the Closed Session Minutes of
January 8, 2007. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

       Ms. Burbage moved and Mr. Maros seconded approving the administration’s
recommendation for expulsion of Student A for two calendar years. Student A may return in
February 2009. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

      Mr. Maros moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded approving the administration’s
recommendation for expulsion of Student B for one calendar year. Student B may return in January
2008. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

      Ms. Burbage moved and Mr. Maros seconded approving the administration’s
recommendation for expulsion of Student C for one calendar year. Student C may return in January
2008. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

        Mr. Maros moved and Ms. Burbage seconded approving the administration’s
recommendation allowing Student D to return to school under conditions set forth by the principal
of the high school. Upon roll call, all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0.

Adjournment

        Mr. Maros moved and Mr. Nardoni seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Upon roll call,
all board members present voted “Aye.” Motion carried 6-0. Ms. Goncher declared the meeting
adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
