					                   A TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN FROM

                     46 ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO

               Formed August 1943 – Disbanded January 1946

            Served as part of 4 SPECIAL SERVICE BRIGADE




IN PROUD AND EVERLASTING MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO SERVED IN 46 ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO
WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN NORMANDY, HOLLAND AND GERMANY 1944-45




                        NAMES ARE IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER
                             RM 46 Commando, Normandy invasion,

                                           “Operation Overlord”
Landed D+1 (7 June 1944) in Normandy on Juno Beach from LSI 1519 & 1520. On the 9th June 46 Commando take La
Deliverande, and come under the command 3 Canadian Infantry Division and moved to the area of Anguerny.

                                    Sunday, 11 June - Saturday, 12 August 1944

11 June 1944 0615 hrs Commandos left Anguerny and married up with the supporting units, and the operation was in 4
phases:-

1.   Clear the woods from Barbiere to the outskirts of Cairon.

2.   Clear Cairon.

3.   Attack on Rosel.

4.   Attack on Le Hamel and Rots. In the first phase the bulk of the Commandos would go to the west bank of the river,
and with two troops would clear the woods on the east bank. Tanks would move onto the higher ground on the west side.
It was completed without difficulty by 1100 hrs. 8 POWs were taken in the woods.

At the town of Rots the Commando approached the town held by the 12th S.S. Hitler Jugend through a corn field. When
the Germans opened fire the commandos continued to advance firing tommy guns, rifles & bren guns from the hip.
Although the commandos lost 20 men 122 German bodies were found after the town was taken

                                    Sunday 20th to the- Friday 25th August 1944

Before sunrise on 20 August, 46 RM Commando launched an attack on the heights above Putot. There a savage close-
quarters battle ensued and the commandos seized the position overlooking the entire Dozulé area.

                                             GERMAN OPERATIONS

                                             OPERATION PLUNDER

Operation Plunder, in which 46 Commando RM was involved, began at 9 pm on the evening of 23 March, and by the
early hours of the morning of 24 March Allied ground units had secured a number of crossings on the eastern bank of
the Rhine. This was followed by Operation Varsity in which British & American Airborne troops were involved
