TECHNOENVIRONMENT Ask me to send you the Postcard Template Open the Environment folder. (Ask your teacher where this is located.) Double click postcard template. Front of postcard will contain: Text Box WordArt Picture AutoShape There are two pages in the postcard template: Back of postcard will contain: 1 is the front of the postcard Environmental message 2 is the back of the postcard Address of recipient Draw a Text Box that Includes a Title about the Environmental Issue From the Objects toolbar, click Text Box. Click and drag on the postcard to make a rectangle. Type a short phrase that will grab the viewer’s attention; for example: o Did you know that our forests are dying? o Save the polar bears. o Litter stinks! Use the tools on this Formatting toolbar to make the words attract attention. Triple click the words or click and drag across the words to select all the text. Click each of the tools to view the effect on the title of the postcard: Change the font to set the typeface of the letters. Select the font size from a list of options. Apply a bold style to make the letters look darker. Apply an italic style to make the letters slant to the right. Apply an underline style to place a line below the letters. Center the letters in the text box. Decrease the font size to make the letters smaller. Increase the font size to make the letters larger. Select a font color from a palette. From the Formatting toolbar click the Fill Color arrow. Select a color from the palette. Click Fill Color again and select Fill Effects. Select an option. Click the Gradient tab. Explore the options on the tab. Select the colors Select the style Click the Texture tab. Explore the options on the tab. Use your skills to fill the text box. Click OK. HINTS AND TIPS If the fill color is dark you may want to change the font color to white. Fill the text box with a color or texture that suits the environmental topic. TECHNOENVIRONMENT SESSION 2 Use WordArt to Attract Attention From the Objects toolbar, click Insert WordArt. Select a style from the gallery. Click OK. Type Wish you were here Press ENTER. Type to help solve this problem. You can change the font Other WordArt Ideas: Location name Greetings from location Souvenir of location Location home of the Environmental Issue Click OK. Select the WordArt. The WordArt toolbar appears: WordArt toolbar Use the tools on the WordArt toolbar to make the WordArt look great: Edit the text. Make the letters an even height. Select a new style from the gallery. Change the orientation. Align the WordArt if there are two Set the color and line style. or more lines of text. Bend the shape of the WordArt. Set the spacing between letters. TECHNOKIDS INC. 37 TECHNOENVIRONMENT Insert a Picture of the Environmental Issue that you found on while researching! From the Objects toolbar, click Picture Frame. Select Picture from File. Click and drag to draw a box on the postcard. Go to your student folder where you saved your pictures. Select a picture that will grab attention. Click Insert. Format the Picture Click on the picture to select it, if necessary. Move the mouse pointer over a corner handle until it turns into a two way arrow. Drag the corner handle inwards to make the picture smaller or outwards to make the picture larger. If the picture needs to be put in a different place, move the mouse pointer over the center until it becomes a four way arrow. Drag the picture into place. Resize the picture with a two way arrow on a corner Move the picture handle. with a four way arrow on the picture. Use your skills to add a borderline or shadow to the picture. Apply a borderline and select the color. Set the line thickness. Select the dash style. Apply a shadow. 38 TECHNOKIDS INC. TECHNOENVIRONMENT SESSION 2 Insert an AutoShape to Use to Describe the Picture From the Objects toolbar, click AutoShape. Select a category. Pick a shape from the gallery. Click and drag to draw the shape. Format the AutoShape Click on the shape to select it, if necessary. Move the mouse pointer over a corner handle until it turns into a two way arrow. Drag the corner handle inwards to make the shape smaller or outwards to make the picture larger. If the shape needs to be put in a different place, move the mouse pointer over the center until it becomes a four way arrow. Drag the shape to a new place. Some shapes have adjustment handles. Drag a green circle to rotate the shape. Drag a yellow diamond to change the shape. If available, drag the adjustment handles to change the shape. Use your skills to format the shape. Fill a shape with a color, gradient, or texture. Apply a borderline and select the color. Set the line thickness. Select the dash style. Apply a shadow. TECHNOKIDS INC. 39 TECHNOENVIRONMENT Add Text to the AutoShape to Describe the Picture Right click on the shape. Select Add Text. Type a short sentence explaining the environmental problem; for example: o Acid rain damages forests. o Global warming is destroying the habitat of polar bears. Use your skills to format the text using tools on the Formatting toolbar. Change the font to set the typeface of the letters. Select the font size from a list of options. Apply a bold style to make the letters look darker. Center the letters in the text box. Decrease the font size to make the letters smaller. Increase the font size to make the letters larger. Select a font color from a palette. To remove the hyphen: 1. Right click selected text. 2. Select Proofing Tools. 3. Select Hyphenation. 4. Remove checkmark from Automatically hyphenate this story. 5. Click OK. Complete the Postcard Use your skills to make the postcard look great: HINTS AND TIPS Use an AutoShape to draw a rectangle around the edge of the postcard to frame it. Select a font that it is easy to read. Format the text so that the title attracts attention. Arrange the objects on the postcard to create a balanced layout. Select colors and design elements that suit the topic. For example, green is suitable for forests and blue is suitable for water. Save the Postcard and Exit Microsoft Publisher Click Save on the Standard toolbar. Go to your H drive to save your work. Name the publication postcard. Click Save.
